Jarrod. School work? You need to get your priorities straight.

    1. Reno Pics

    3. Everything Else
Oh, it's not just that....Jarrod and his dad were out digging up dirty laundry on Sunday. I was impressed with the questions that were asked.... :-)

      OK, I'll say it.................

I can not believe that a celeb flying over the races causes such a stir!

I follow this site because I am interested in the Reno Air Races- not John Travolta (or any other over paid "actor")

It takes monumental effort to get a RACER to Reno- money, sweat, money, blood, money, tears......I thought THAT is what we are interested in here, the sport of air racing- not celeb watch!

I just can not get excited about a movie star going out of his way to fly over Stead. Big whoop!

I'm a race fan too...but here's a thought. Could getting a celeb or two involved in Air racing be a bad thing? It would create some extra coverage and maybe they'd could attract some money to the sport, or give some of their own to it. Thoughts?

Ha, me too. It's not a big deal to me, it's just one of those little air race things that a lot of us will remember just because it was one of those little moments. We are all about the racing first here. Just because Trovolta got his his own thread doesn't mean we are all about him. Chill Dog.

. . . or if he'd taken a hot lap like Clay Lacy at Mojave. Now THAT woulda bought him some cred!

Not trying to hijack, but I didn't want to start a new 'celeb' thread/flame.

Anyone know what Glen Plake (extreme skier, dude with huge mohawk) was doing at the races this year. I saw him in the pits on Saturday and Section 3 on Sunday, both times with a camera man in tow.

They were filming for his tv show about extreme sports, he hung out with us during the start-up of a T-6 heat race, pretty nice guy chatted with him until it was time to strap in the pilot and launch our T-6, what ever product he uses for that mohawk, it didn't budge an inch on that windy cold day. The kicker was one of his teeth had a diamond set in. Classic in an over the top kinda way.

I saw him all over the place. On Friday, the wing was blowing so hard he kept "weather vaning" into the wind and could not get anywhere. Poor guy.

"Star of low budget, dirtbag ski films like Maltese Flamingo". That part out of License to Thrill is one of my favorite parts of all the ski movies he's done. When he looks over and says "...LICENSE!?". Although Blizzard of Ahhhhhhs is still my favorite overall. Man, I'm bummed I didn't see him. That's what I get for sittin' on the fence. He's a local. He's got the only house on Lahontan and he sets up and maintains the only public slalom (waterski) course around. He also host our local INT (International Novice Tour) events. He is an awesome slalom skier. It's the only course I ever ski. Helluva guy.

                            One more quick line-
Interviewer "If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be?"

                            Plake "........Me! HAHAHAHAHA!"

Oh yeah, I belive the secret ingredient for the mohawk is egg whites and lots of hair spray. I seem to remember that from the Bryant Gumble interview.

                              VERY nicely done!

If I remember correctly, he's doing the voice of a cop, saying "Hey, this isn't a drivers license....this is a License to Thrill"

It's actually been quite a while since I've watched it, but to my recollection, it goes something like this:

After he says "LICENSE!?", he continues to describe the scene. "He reaches into this glove full of stuff, grabs exactly what needs and hands it to the cop. Then the cop says "Son, this is a license to thrill."

That's how I remember it at least. Like said, it's been a while. I saw somewhere there was a 4 pack of Stump films for like $60. I think it had License to Thrill, Blizzard of Ahhhhhs, Time Waits For Snow Man and The Maltese Flamingo. They were such cool movies back in the day. A much needed departure from the same old annual Warren Miller movies.

-"He jumps, she jump, ski jumps. Huh huh huh huh, I love me."
