Great shots. It still bugs me that at slow shutter speeds there is no way to get the entire plane sharp, or car, for that matter when I go to the races.
The slow stuff does make for some really interesting shots though.

Is it easier to hold it steady at slow shutter speeds on the pylons or from the Pits/Stands?

You are panning at the pylons, and in the pits, you use the same motion, shutter speed does not matter.

Well I guess I was looking for something to make me feel better. I thought mine tured out pretty good for taking an SLR for the first time, that is until I saw Victor's

Jarrod, don't feel bad about anything... I got my first 35mm camera 30 years ago!!! and started taking photos around age 8/9 so I've been photographing stuff for over 35 years. I started taking photos of fast moving objects (Drag racing/Aircraft) about 25 years ago, so I guess you could say I've been practising my panning/tracking for at least 25 years now. Plus my Dad was a professional freelance aviation photographer and started taking photos back in the mid '40's so in some ways you can say I'm pulling on 60+ years of photographic experience.

Oh, and what ever you do DO NOT STAY AT A HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS!!!
You will suck at everything you ever do for the rest of your life!

Plus Jarrod, I delete A LOT, and I mean A LOT of photos. They are just pure junk. When you shoot real slow shutter speeds your going to get a lot of junk, but you also usually get a few gems.

Tim, maybe you get a few gems, I just get wasted pixels and the occasional accident. "Hey look, a sharp one. How'd that happen?"

Victor, thanks as ever for sharing.

                        No pixels were harmed, honest.

Try doing it the old fashion way, color print film! I still shoot print for my racing pics(notice my avatar)so I have to make every shot count! Imagine how it was for photographers back before digital!(lots and lots of rolls of film,LOL) Someday I'll upgrade, but for now... If you like sprint cars and midgets, go to t-dubs.com for some racing pics around N. Nevada

If I was shooting film (as I did for over 25 years) I would not be using shutter speeds of 30 of a sec. and I could not afford to be as creative as I can be now. I also would not be sharing the number of images with you that I do...........................
