Registered/Unregistered Posts - The Time Has Come

OK folks, workload:...

The last couple of days have proven to be back breakers. Both for me, and, at least, one of our volunteer moderators.

For quite some time, we have allowed unregistered posts to filter into a message queue, then they are either deleted, as with the case of the 100's of SPAM for Viagra or BIG TITS or Penis Enlargement or some vitamin or WHATEVER!

I'm not saying this mess is why we lost one of our key moderators, but, I am going to say that the workload placed on Your's Truly, has made my life an on-going train wreck for months!

With this said...

Within the next few days.. I have to change out some forum lead-in messages, I'm going to turn this forum into a REGISTERED-ONLY post permisson forum.

Unlike some, unregged will still be allowed to READ messages, that is simply good for the sport. We WANT new folks to read, get excited and come to the races.

But, NO LONGER will myself and the moderators be plagued by 100's of BS messages to sort through.

I think this is a reasonable solution to PART of a problem which has become obvious as of the last few days.

For myself only.. I do not have the time to sort through all of the unligit posts to get to the ligit posts.

I'm only a single human, give me too many tasks and I'll drop something, somewhere.

Anyway, cut to the chase..

Are any of you willing to volunteer to sort through the mess or, is it a better idea to simply only allow REGISTERED members to post?

Regisitered only = Ive ran message boards before and its just something you have to do, but expect bots to regisiter as well, I forget if this board has a image verification system or not when registering. I promise you, they're damn decicated to give us bigger boobs and al lthat jazz. :P

As you and I discussed earlier.. I can work to avoid this sort of thing but as long as somoene is willing to adopt an alias email address, go through the trouble to register and verify via that address, then login as "someone else" and post.. no, directly, there is nothing I can do. Other than what I've done in the past and will continue to do.

The board has really good tracking, if you sign in as "someone else" and think you're getting away with something. Once a problem arises, it only takes me a minute to track it to about 1/1000'th of a chance of "you're not guilty"...

So.. quick answer.. yes/no...

We're all here to have fun, no harm, no foul, no problem.

Nobody gets taken to task unless they just simply have to be.. OK???

Let's move forward!!!!!

Once in a great while, guys like Tiger, Smoot, Button, the rest, drop by... they are not really into message boards.. they see something, hit reply and type out a bunch a stuff.. then hit send.

NOTICE: YOU HAVE TO BE REGISTERED TO POST...

Or whatever comes up when you post unregged in a regged system (I bought the software, I didn't write it!)

We lose a very valuable contribution to the communication system..

THIS and ONLY this is why we kept it as it was/is for so long.

The problem is.. .

When it gets as involved as it has been, it gets to be mentally taxing. I screw up, folks get miffed, we lose good peeps..

God, I wish it were simpler!

I've had my daily ration of SNPA+ I do NOT do major work after SNPA (motto to be lived by!) but will tackle this maniana! (is that how it's spelled?)

My vote is for registration as well. It may seem a hinderance to some folk, but spam and the like have made it a necessary pain these days.

Hopefully, if someone truly involved with air racing has something they really want to say here, they will take a few moments to sign up.


I would have volunteered to assist, but I already have admin duties on 4 gaming forum/file hosting sites, so I probably should not take on any more workloads. I'm kept pretty busy as it is.
