    Randy & Brad,

I had the wonderful priviledge of meeting your dad, Bruce, over at the Museum of Flying at Boeing Field yesterday. He is quite a gentleman and speaks very highly of each of you. I know I haven't met either of you personally other than on this forum, but I thought I would share the good that comes from participating on this forum. Randy-- best wishes across "The Pond" at your new assignment. Good Hunting! Have fun!

For those of you who haven't been to the Boeing Museum facility....GO!!! Having lived in the Washington D.C. area and been to the Smithsonian & the Garber Facility which is now relocated to the Dulles facility, I can say with authority that the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field outside of Seattle is one of the finest Museums you will ever see. Very rare aircraft (F2G Corsair in NATC markings & FW-190D-13 "longnose", Gee Bee "Z", etc.) are housed there. The museum was not crowded at all & for kids....it's right on an operational airport so the overall aviation educational experience is awesome. My 2yr old son had a blast. (Daddy did too!)

    Re: Haskins

I claim no knowledge of him whatsoever...... :-)

Our family kind of has a niche carved into that place...as both Hacker and I have worked there, and mom and dad have volunteered there.

The place will be a lot better when they finally get the B-17 in there, as well as the B-29 restored, and the B-47 indoors, and the Comet down from Paine Field, and, and, and, and....but it certainly is a lot better now that they got the Champlin collection on display.

Glad you had a good time.

Interestingly enough, the F2G at one time was going to be raced at Reno by Walt Olrich. They had mounted a B-50 propeller on it, but had some sort of interface/control issues with it. Then some 'ownership' issues cropped up with the Government, and it all fell through. Could have been another Super Corsair on the course 10 years before the Bud Light Special came out. Woulda, shoulda, coulda.

I (with others) pulled a Corsair out of Lake Washington back in about 82 that's supposed to be there.

      Anyone know if it is?

Yes. That FG-1D is located in the Personal Courage Wing of the Museum, painted in the markings it was in when it went in the drink off of NAS Sand Point.

Are any of the aircraft flown, e.g., the FW-190?

            The Fw190 hasn't flown since the 1940s.

In fact, no Fw190 has flown since the 1940s, anywhere.

              Re: Haskins

No, it is the policy of the museum NOT to fly anything. I believe that some of the aircraft are 'flyable', but not actively flown.

That was one of the sticking points when I was a manager there, and I would get into these pissing contests with the other administrators--who were 'museum' people and not 'airplane' people. I told them we needed to be offering warbird rides (T-6, P-51, etc.), but they believed that there wasn't a market for that kind of thing in the public, and they didn't want to have to fork over the insurance for the coverage.

So instead, Lee Oman flies a Stearman and an old Travel Air biplane and sells rides out of the parking lot during the summer months.

You've got to be kidding! Does anyone on hangartalk even know ANYONE whou wouldn't want to take a flight on a warbird? Even my wife would like to do that, and my son, and my daughter-in-law, and their two boys and their 2 year old daughter and my brother and 3 sisters and my 80 year old mom and my dogs and my gold fish and my trout bait. Who doesn't want to do that? I'd even recover my dad's ashes to take him up if the opportunity presented itself. (He was a top turret gunner and flight engineer with Ted's Traveling Circus in B-24's during WWII)

                      Re: Haskins

There's also at least two of the Jurcas flying. One full scale with a R-1830, a 75% with a IO-540, and another coming with a M-14 (that will be pretty cool). There's also an original designed all metal design flying.

Air Classics is supposedly doing an article soon, sounds like it will just cover the Flugwerks.

That's not a Focke Wulf 190, it's a Flug Werk 190. New build, modern systems, US engine.

Similar, but not the same thing.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm still trying to get my stuff together here in the UK, and I only have net access in a public internet cafe currently.

Correct, but the flying 190 has a Shvetsov for power and their 'Dora' will have an Allison.
