How about 1/2 scale Berlin B9 ? It would be only 4,25 meters in span...

That would be a new world record in tinyness at least.

I got AVIONS magazine 3-views of it ( Hanriot H-232.2 ). Looks really smooth plane ( also some really interesting details were revealed )..and it was only marginally slower than a Dh 88 Comet Racer ( both 200 mph +, Ratier prop and weighed alike ), which had 20 hp:s more punch in its Gipsy Six R engines ( and Hanriot H-232 was a trainer ! ).

I don't think anyone ever built one, but was pretty cool. If I remember right, it called for C-85's for power. The turrets could be removed and stored for flight, to lessen the drag. The top of the cockpit opened up to the pilot compartment. Anyone else remember reading about this??

As a further drift how about the SK257?

My vote would be a 3/4 or even full scale Dornier Do-335. Has anyone ever attempted building a replica or scale version of this?

Ever so often a rumor crops up about a 3/4 scale Do 335. Last one I heard of was 2-3 years ago and was back east somewhere. It was going to be powered by 2 Falconer V-12s. It's possible but until I see pictures, I will remain skeptical.

I'm probably wrong about this, but didn't the DO 335 have some sort of bad flying characteristic?

Bailing out was a bit of an issue as you can imagine. I believe they had an ejection seat though.

The stuff I've read about the Do-335 mentioned that one of the first test aircraft had a minor porpoising problem but that it was corrected in a later version. Reports from the test pilots said it had a very tight turn radius and was easy to fly. One was brought to the US after the war for testing and they achieved a max level speed of 474mph! Just think what could be done with today's technology... The plane used water cooled, inverted V-12s so a pair of RR Merlins would probably do the trick.

The plane did indeed have an ejection seat that used compressed air. It also had explosive bolts that would remove the entire tail section and rear prop if all else failed. The funny thing is... the two seat trainer version only had one ejection seat (I believe for the student). The IP would pretty much be screwed.

Really? The photot makes it look like a radial up front.

That's what I thought as well. The engines used are the Daimler Benz DB 603E/MW50 developing about 1800HP each. Apparently, the "radial" looking front end is for a "cooling tunnel" that delivers air to the rear engine. There were plans (maybe a prototype was built) to build a version using DB 603N engines with two-stage superchargers that would develope 2700HP!

I guess it's lucky for us they arrived too late in the war to see any service.

The front engine has its radiator ahead of the engine same as the long nose
                              190 - D
the rear engine has its cooling air ducted to the radiator from a p-51 ish looking scoop on the bottom of the fuse
the cooling air from the rear engine ducts out by the rear prop
