Does that mean that you have to have more that one downhill skier on the course at the same time to call that racing, too?

If Red Bull gets young Gen Xer's interested in aviation, that's getting them one step closer to appreciating racing around the Pylons at Reno.

Like Bill, when I mention air racing to most co-workers/friends the first thing they bring up is the Red Bull racing series. They have ACTUALLY seen Red Bull on TV and other places. They HAVEN'T seen or heard anything about Reno air racing. It's one area that RARA has really dropped the ball on.

The first time I ever "saw" air racing was on "Wide World of Sports" and all I really remember is Clay Lacy in sooper snoopy might have been Mojave ....not real sure. I never saw real racing on TV again

with all the new technology WHY cant the races be broadcast

Its all a marketing game. Red Bull is a global product with unprecedented exposure. RARA is a small small market segment with little to no exposure outside the aviation community. There is a core audience associated with Reno where Red Bull hosts events on a global scale. The best thing RARA could do is host Red Bull events at Reno during the "real" races and throughout the year. I've been following the races since 1980, I saw an article in Air Classics when I was 9 and was hooked. For years AC was the only source for news, for me anyway...being a kid and all. It wasn't broadcasted like NASCAR, the results weren't broadcast by the local news channel every September...and you know what...other than the internet nothing has changed in 27 years. Even the internet is limited to updated message boards as the races occur. If RARA was smart they would do a live Pay Per View broadcast "as it happens" for those of us that can't get to Reno. Ok...off my soapbox Congrats to the Merlins Magic crew! Proving where there is a will there is a way!!

I know this thread has gotten off the Magical topic but I need to chime in. Congrats to everyone in the Magic camp, job very well done! Hope to see yall back at Reno 07. As for RARA dropping the ball on growing the market, that is spot on. I do remember watching it on WWOS and seeing the Red Barron mishap. Since then, NOTHING.... I think it would really go over great just like NASCAR is doing. The stands would definatley be over filled for sure. RARA you listening. Losen the purse strings and let this sport grow some. Just think of the technology that would come out of it. We are already seeing great strides with limited funds on several projects and the sport class is after all the future of Reno. Once again, RARA you listening. Ok off my soap box...

It IS whats happening folks, and where WE are, it aint!

To proove my . I would give my left nut to have the red bull guys take over this rinky dinky , RARA circle jerk we have here. Thr Reno guys really dont give a rats ass about whatwe hold near and dear to our hearts. It you think for one second that the economocs of filling casions or hotels or hooker services would be better served racing jackasses around track ..... they would drop us like a rock!

I have been on several boards and attended many NAG meeting for years trying to get a "center" of consensis going.

All i get basically is a lot of talk and ZZZZZZZZZ for action.

Why cant THIS board be the spark plug on maturing this nitch activity into some real change.

Remember people.....perception is reality. And our september deal wont last forever sparky!

The only two guys iv heard Cobb and Slack have manuvwered there postings about a vehicle for change.

So, the bench racing has got to STOP as a reactive approach and a proactive consenses needs to START.

Run this frikin problem like a business start up.... the product? is matruring what happens on this board.

When I become King...I will set up Pylons very near Las Vegas...Parade EVERY racer down Las Vegas Blvd...park them under the Fremont Street Lights playing Race graphics overhead for all to gaze upon...and do this at least twice a year. There will be nothing but tumbleweed blowing across Stead til the end of days!

Glad to see Magic is back-especially after seeing the "before" in person... Jes a footnote-the T-6 Dennis flew for the Photo shoot will be flying in Reno '07 as "After Midnight".
