Under the new rules, would you be able to put a bigger motor on an NXT? Such as a 780? Would you even want to?

Adsolutely, and of course I would. I race to win and there is no substitute for horsepower!

What would an NXT do with the engine that Jon Parker races?????

if I read the rules right when only 2 planes show up with bigger than sport rules eng they are the super sport class. do they run alone ? do the planes that are sport leagal have to run in supersport to fill the field? If they cross the finish line first do they win the super sport or the sport gold.? If they finish 3rd do they win the sport gold that will be run at a later time without them or are they punished and given third super sport even though they are the fastest legal sport finisher??

            covers the following amendments:

            1. Divisions of competition shall change from
Sport Class Gold, Silver and Bronze to Super Sport, Sport Gold and
            Sport Silver.

            2. Super Sport shall consist of the fastest eight
aircraft which are permitted up to 1000 cu. in., fuel from any
truck on the flight line plus any additive including Nitrous Oxide,
ADI without an alcohol percentage limit and the ability to bump
down into the Sport Gold/Silver division if in compliance with the
            restrictions of those Sport categories.

            3. Aircraft competing in Sport Gold and Silver
will consist of qualifiers nine through sixteen and are restricted
to 650 cu. in displacement, fuel from any truck on the flight line
without the enhancement of additives or Nitrous and no ADI.

            4. All displacements may be supercharged and all
aircraft must weigh less than 4500 lbs and conform to the five kit
            minimum requirement.

            5. All divisions will race on a slightly expanded
Sport Course following a start lap on the existing Unlimited Course.

Although the names have changed, the Class will continue to consist
of three divisions and the number of aircraft comprising a full
field remains the same at twenty eight (three heats of eight plus
            four alternates).
            In other words.......

Wouldn't one think that 2007 will for the most part just see 650-cu. in. and below racers tap into this new class with the ADI, nitrous, and additives? It sounds like 2-3 new racers may be ready, at best, for PRS that would be over 650. That is unless, of course, there is some big things going on in secret. If so we will know within a few months.

My guess is we see no more than two racers actually qualified this year with the bigger engines. 2007 Speeds will be up in a huge way, however.

So what kits out there could fit/be modified to take a motor over 650ci?

I don't think anyone is going to try it with something like an Rv or a similarly light aircraft, so Lancair? Nxt? ThunderMustang? maybe could do it in a Legend if someone wanted to race it? Anything else out there it would work with?

The Glasair III of Terry Morris, N333ZZ, "Jawbreaker" with its Lyc IO-720 WAS one candidate. (see Kitplanes, August 2003) It was "destroyed" in the April 2004 landing accident at Lakeland. Or was it? Is it being rebuilt?

Are there any other Glasairs or Lancairs with IO-720's?

Know how much it's performance increased with the big motor?

                            [QUOTE=Relentless]A Relentless point of view!

Many suggest the Sport Class should morph itself into some sort of Unlimited variant. One off racers etc.... I think rather than try and change the Sports maybe the Unlimited folks need to learn from the successes we are having and get back to their roots. Darryl and Jon Parker above anyone should be able to decide if they want to build a one off racers compete in the UNLIMITED Races! I checked with Darryl and he swears there is no prop-wash in front!

I strongly disagree with the mentality that the Unlimited Class has by limiting weight and making the class a warbird class. I read a string some time ago that listed many famous racers that would not been able to race if the 4500 limit was in place back then. The Unlimited Class needs to listen to it's fans and if they cannot get people to spend millions of dollars to cut up warbirds then the class is responsible to make changes necessary to keep the fan base interested. Unlimited should be UNLIMITED! That is it's roots.

I agree with you on that, the 'Unlimited' class isnt unlimited when there are weight limits on the airframes, i for one would love to see one off racers like the pond racer, Tsunami and the so far uncompleted unlimiteds of Darryl Greenamyer and Matt Jackson take to the air and compete. As for the turbulance factor of the smaller racers behind the mustangs furies and bearcats, i recall seeing a post on that here on another thread, where i think it was dave morss telling folks that the Thunder Mustang was rock solid on the course behind either Critical Mass or Dreadnought, but im sure that some of the big money unlimited guys are scared that the likes of John Parker and Darryl in the smaller lighter airframes....
                            Just my two cents
