Re: And Friday
Just curious, exactly how does the process work to get access to the pylons for picturetaking...... I imagine that at a minimum there are bribes involved and other nefarious deeds
Not that I'm complaining at having to take pictures from the ramp, if you're at Reno and the planes are flying it's all good

Re: And Friday
In general, pylon access goes to photographers recognized by RARA as "accredited press". In theory you need (at least if you are new to the RARA press credentials committee) an assignment from a sizeable publication and some history of being published in the past.
In practice, things get tighter and looser from year to year. I can remember years when the buses were literally overflowing with people, and many "photographers" with point and shoots or even disposable cameras were consantly in the way of those of us with a job to do. Other years a crackdown occurs, and Reno ends up offending people who feel they have a right to a perpetual press pass for something they got published once five years ago.
The best bet for getting a press pass is always to get a serious assignment in writing from a publication large enough to be recognized by RARA. Remember that Reno wants press credential applications in quite early -- things become exponentially more difficult after May or so.
