I think it qualified at the bottom of the ladder in '82...somewhere close to 300, maybe?

It was just a little homebuilt painted in a desert camo job with orange and white 'invasion' stripes on it. The last I saw of it it was sitting nestled in the back of the Aviation Classics hangar on Sunday afternoon at Reno '82. No idea where it is now.

Don't know if you've seen the Bearcat that came out from someone in France recently, One re-paint from Av-Sim is Ray Dieckman's airplane. Pretty good sim, Lyle hasn't flown it yet, but I'll probably load it onto the new computer when we do it, then we can get his impression.
      ...and money hey?!

Years ago I downloaded a freeware version of a french Bearcat, but I haven't gotten anything lately as I've been out of the MFS stuff until recently -with- the Wings of Power addons. Much of my time was spent in X-Plane because although the graphics may not be quite as advanced as Microsoft's, I felt the flight model was more realistic. Shockwave's Wings of Power aircraft brought me back to using MFS again and I love the flight models.

        John (Slack),
There is a virtual air racing group that I'm a part of. They fly the P-51, Lightning, Sea Fury, and may be adding the Bear Cat at some point. It's called PROPS Racing and can be found at www.westcoastatc.com

          John,
If you haven't played with the XP-72 in the P-47 package you need to.

I already have an updated Cloud Dancer, and I'm using the Galloping Ghost for another class we have, the vintage class using Laird Turners, but yea, if you have a LARS paint, I would love it!

I did not see it in the WOP2 set I purchased, but if it's in there I'd love to give it a try. I'm guessing the XP-72 was a P-47 with a 4360 or something like that?

On another note, I'm thinking one of you guys out there with the knowledge should write or co-write a book on the technical aspects of air racing in the modern era. There are many secrets and fascinating details that go into unlimited race planes or have gone into these aircraft in the past 40+ years of the Reno races. Many of you all have such excellent writing skills, and we out here really enjoy your input into these forums. Of course I'm aware that Brad writes for publications, I do not know of how many others.

Thought it was a P-47 with some type of in-line?

Never mind - it just looks that way

                          Re: Sim Question

The XP-72 was a P-47 Based airplane with a 4360, there were two prototypes one flew with a set of cotra-rotating propellers, the other had a four blade Aeroproducts unit on it, The P-47H was powered by a V engine the Chrysler XIV-2220 Which had 19 Cubic inches less than a Griffon, but was 45 inches longer! The drive for the propeller and accessories came from the middle of the engine, between effectively two V-8 engines. The combustion chamber design was used by Chrysler after the war for it's early style Hemi engine.
