I read earlier that someone indicated that while Dreadnought has a high percentage it has missed many Unlimited finals. Now I am not bias in any fashion HAHA but Dreadnought had 10 consecutive Unlimited final appearances and only missed 1984, 95,96,2000, 2001 cancelled. It has two wins and 13 unlimited secondplace finishes. 1 4th & 1 5th. I have looked through the data base and while the Bear, Dago, Strega all have more 1st place finishes, no one comes close to the consistancy or the winnings of Dreadnought. It has to be the all time money winner in the history of unlimited air racing. I can also say that it is clearly the most profitable unlimited racer of all time. A real testimony to the Sanders ability of fielding a winner and making money at the same time.

True, Matt...but when I was tabulating, I was taking ALL races into account, and there were several races that Dreadnought either didn't attend (Moose Jaw, Hamilton, etc) or DNF'd at ('85 Bakersfield, where they ate another master rod) that broke up the consecutive streak.

I did, however, make note that the Buick had the best finishing PERCENTAGE of any racer...

                Re: Rare Bear History Question

Hmmmmmm....last time an Allison-powered 'anything' won a real Championship was what....Cobra II in the 1946 Thompson?

In the 'modern-era', I think the highest-finish for an Allison-powered plane was Lefty Gardner in Tipsy Miss when he won the Silver race at Mojave '74--an 11 plane field, of which about half were 'fill-in's'. But at the same time, Gary Levitz finished second in Double Trouble...so a 1-2 finish for the Allisons.

I know RLP would be looking at me with raised eyebrows right now, saying "Mah boy, I thought I taught you better than that...."

At best.... I was thinking of a good solid second to last in the bronze.

I miss Fred & Johnny flying your dad's planes around the course. Well, truth be told, I just plain miss Fred, period. Any chance you'll ever bring them back again? They'd make good competition for Tom in "Air Biscuit".

Very good chance. Once the mustang is done, I'm hoping to bring all 3.
