Was in D.C. last week and visited the memorial. 270 feet high, and wierder looking the closer you get to it.

Well, color me contrarian, but the term that springs to mind every time I see it is "Elephant Graveyard". Looks like three tusks sticking out of the ground. I've worn the AF Blue for over thirty years now, and it doesn't rekindle any memories of MY career. An Air Force Memorial with no aircraft at the centerpiece? That's what happens when you try to please everybody. Perhaps I have to see it in person.

Please don't take this ans any criticism of the photos - they look great - good compostition, use of lighting, and environment. Good work!

Well, that part is fine with me. The memorial should be for the men, not the machines.

But I have to agree that I too find it uninspiring. What's it suppose to represent, the paths of 3 aircraft swooping towards the heavens, or is it just an abstract design?

Its just too bad that the Thunderbirds 'bomburst' is FOUR planes, with the solo going up the middle. Perhaps they thought that would look too much like a peeled banana or something.

I don't want to comment the US AF Memorial in any way, but here is a sculpture statue at Pirkkala airfield in Finland by Kimmo Kaivanto.
