All things equal? Probably 330 mph. Remember, the airframe was completely stripped out, and he ran METO power the whole time. But the biggest thing is, Mojave was on a 15 mile course...longer straights, more 'open' turns.

I remember hearing about that. The same thing happened with the O-47. By the time the fire was put out, there was very little left. I do believe that it was after this that proper fire equipment was finally stationed at the airport.

When a gentleman from Chino came to take a look at it, I ended up being the one to take him to what was left. Needless to say, he was very distraught by what he saw. If I remember correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong, he said that it was a very rare aircraft. Two known to exist and the only flyable one was now sitting on a flatbed in burnt pieces. He was hopping to find salvageable parts.

My...that was a long time ago.

PS: Speaking of pictures, I saw Super Snoopy doing laps around my desk late last night.

Probably Ed Maloney. That was his favorite airplane.

Jimmy's answer to my request for a little info was, " ...a lot of cold beer, getting hot...". He was droll but funny, I miss that guy.

              Chris...
My 1st ever warbird flight was in the O-47 with Jim Maloney flying it. I think it was it's 2nd or 3rd flight after our getting it back to flying. It was quite an odd aircraft with a ton of room. It had these small side windows under the wing on each side of the fuselage. You could open them I guess the observers could drop notes on the enemy's position to the ground forces.
That was the wrong plane to forget the gear on. The drains for the fuel tanks stuck out down low. I was glad none of my friends got hurt.
