They are great people, with a large and seemingly very dedicated group of volunteers, The museum itself is great. Along with the two Hawks (E and N, Kitti- and War-) there is an immaculate P-51C that they hope to fly in the next month or so, and an F-86F Sabre (static) that is about done and which will be painted in the Korean War colors of their old friend Bob Love. The Pauls have at least enough land for another large hangar, and recently acquired a half interest in "Pacific Princess", so will soon be adding a flying B-25 to the museum collection. There are also lots of interesting exhibits (the museum other than the airplanes is primarily the domain of Sue Paul and the volunteers). The museum also has a very active educational outreach program with local schools and a Veteran's History program interviewing American war veterans and preserving their stories.

The weekend event was very successful, drawing 1400 and 1300 admissions on Saturday and Sunday, in distinctly unfavourable weather. They were selling sodas for a dollar and hot dogs for a buck and a half, I think. What did you pay for your last soda at Reno? They had two world War II P-38 vets speaking between the flying segments, along with Bob Cardin giving a great slide presentation on the recovery (for which he was project manager) of Glacier Girl from the Greenland ice cap ( 26 stories beneath the surface, which I had not quite comprehended before!). I especially enjoyed spending some time with P-38 pilot (and F-86s in Korea) Stan Richardson who, among many other exploits, was the pilot for General Eisenhower's famous flight over Normandy in June 1944 in a "droop snoot" P-38. A fascinating man and an American hero. All the presentations both days were standing room only, and with interesting and worthwhile audience questions afterwards.

There will be more events this year, including a "Navy Days" and a "B-25 weekend", along with a Pearl Harbor remembrance in December. All in all this is a remarkable effort for a small family-supported community-oriented museum.. I highly recommend it for anybody who is in the Rocky Mountain region and needs a Warbird fix.

I certainly enjoyed my weekend with the Pauls (and I'm also quite thankful for John Sr.'s plentiful supply of Scotch whiskey -- which I made good use of after the flying was done each day)...

Visit the Warhawk Air Museum, a military history museum in Nampa, Idaho for historic Warbirds and war planes and personal memorabilia from the American experience of WWI, WWII, Vietnam and Korea.

I was there a couple summers ago for Mustangs and Warhawks (oh my). Ditto everything you've said.

One of these days I'll have to buy a ride and take some air to air stereos with which to blow all you lucky flat photo guys away.
            No pixels were harmed, honest.

And Bob Nightingale's T-28 (just got his name, which I had forgotten or never learned, on the WIX board -- I do hope I have it right now)...

You know, one thing I want to know is how come Bill didn't get any pictures of me in the back of the P-40 getting my ride of a lifetime! And he calls himself a photographer...

Naw -- I'm going to bed, finally. I can't belive I'm still on the computer! I've been really good about going to bed at a reasonable hour for the last week or so too! I'll regret this in the morning...

Like I said, if I had known you were there.......... Now you are making me feel bad about not getting a picture of YOU in the back of the P-40. I was jealous of course of all the guys I saw climbing out of the aircraft, especially the guy in the back of the P-38 with Steve.......... Was it Saturday when you went? That was the only day I got to go. I was trying to get pictures of all the planes when they taxied out, but all I could get was the P-38 during startup. If I had known.......I did get a couple of short video's of the formation when they flew over. I had my little Nikon E7900 and the zoom on it is VERY limited. I don't have anything in the way of a big lense in a digital. And I left my Canon 35mm at home. Next time, give a guy a little warning when you are going to an Airshow.......... and going for a ride in something cool Plus Neal, I was kinda busy sheperding my Dad around, so I was a little distracted. (true story). This is all in jest and you know I'm kidding like you. I wish I had known that was you in the back of the P-40, (Saturday afternoon?) I would have helped a brother out. Maybe next time? You may have a picture of me and my Dad somewhere in your Saturday shots. He's the one with the O2 bottle on his back and black footed cane wearing a blue ballcap I think. I was wearing a red EWU hoody sweatshirt and switched to my leather Navy flight jacket before they started the Cardon spiel.
                                Never mind. Maybe next year
