    Re: Aluminum Overcast

Does that make it right? It seems to me that it was the jury's duty to determine fault, not find a way to get the medical bills paid.

I know that sounds cold, but deep pockets litigation hurts everybody in the long=term. What if someone had been injured when the O2 bottles blew on Merlins Magic and a jury decided that the Airport Authority was at fault for allowing an unsafe condition to exist? Do you think they'd assume that kind of liability the next year, or would they just refuse to allow the event to be held on their property?

But the most important question remains - did either of the pilots have a low-altitude waiver in order to conduct that formation takeoff?

And that's why I apologized. It was an unnecessary inconsiderate comment...especially when my beef is for the legal politics that came afterwards. I shouldn't have said what I did.

That's the most adult response I have seen on here for a while.

Oh man I think I opened Pandora's box here. I should have just left the Albatross out.

One more quick question about the accident that has bewildered my brain over the years...can anyone shed any light on why Pardue would be doing his runup on the ACTIVE runway???

Went for my first flight in a B-17 that day. Was pretty cool.

For the mass Warbird flights they use the runway as a run up area since there are so many planes and the runway is so long, and then launch in waves as the group in front clears the runway.

                    Makes sense. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you don't need a low altitude waiver to conduct a formation take-off. I could be wrong but it just doesn't seem logical. Say a 2-ship of Mustangs are going to do a fly-over during the national anthem at 2500 feet, it wouldn't make sense to have a low altitude waiver just for a section takeoff. Like I said though, I could be wrong.

Does anyone know where Tom Wood's Bearcat was? When my dad used to be his pilot he told me about that story, I don't remember where he said Tom was but I didn't see two Bearcats in the video.

Its there. It was stopped 'aligned' with the runway on the right, while Pardue was angled on the left. The Corsair missed Wood's Cat on the left side, but hit Corsair left wing to Bearcat right wing with N14HP. You can see it as a 'blur' in the video as the second Corsair goes around it to the right off into the grass.
