BTW, when did your Mustang land at Chino on Friday? I'll look for any pics I might have taken.

oops - sorry. Even if I could tell the difference between a mustang and T-6 with my burned out eyes, I didn't get to Chino till about 1500.

OK this is pre race but, Jumpseating out of Oakland With Capt jimmy Gist flying, around 1992, then watching him race the next day in "Texas Red" I believe, or, sleeping in the motorhome for the first time down by the west hangers, its around 6:40 am and I faintly hear an airplane doing a run up, I am half awake and hear it take off, I can tell it is a Mustang but hey it is Reno they are taking off quite often, it does a long climbout and the next thing I hear is the plane getting louder, and louder and faster, I jump outside of the motorhome to see Strega do a looowwww pass over the runway about the fastest I have ever seen a mustang fly, it sent chills up my back, I am guessing it was his way of waking the whole valley up and saying "Get up Folks, lets go racing " , or, seeing Jeannie Miraciously take the course after all the hard work to get her there, and she is making her qualifying pass, all of a sudden there is this ungoldy roar that you probably could hear all over the valley, it was incredibly loud as the prop gears let go, I think Skip was flying and the E-landing was brilliant, he just barley ran off of the runway even though he couldnt see where he was going because of all the oil, or, seeing both of the Lear Fans taxiing out together, Or, watching Habu race, what a beautiful airplane that was, and what an awsome setup the Tired Iron Racing Team had every year in the pits, I guess I have alot of Favorite Moments, lol.

...then there was the time Ray Cote in Alleycat beat Nemesis! You should have been in the IF1 hangar that day!

the cars not the planes. When they switch from fire breathing 19,000 rpm engines to tiny 10,000 rpm V-6s.

I think it was 1990 or 91. But I was a special guest of the biplane teck inspectors (thanks dad ) We were out getting ready to start a race and the Blue Angles were just starting thier show.

I was standing with the other tech inspectors on the edge of the taxiway on the west side of the field. When Blue Angle #7 took off...
Talk about a view to thrill. My ears are still ringing from that, but it was worth it.

There was also the times we (dad and I) would go and camp out at pylon 3 on top of the hill. This was before they started running everyone out. And you guys think the fence line is a great spot!... lol

You would have to be an early bird to the races to remember this one. It only happend one year, and I cannot remember the year. But I was fairly young. My dad flew his 232 sail plane in the pre race morning on a Saterday. I sat in the anouncers stand and watched. It didnt last long, a few loops, a few turns, and some wing tip smoke, Oh and the high speed show center pass at a wopping 150 mph.
I cant ever remember being more proud of my father. He was my hero after that... Well until I locked his keys in the car later that day.. ROFL..

It shocked me too that there's f1 cars the racecar teams(ferrari, mclaren, toyota) have $500,000,000.00 budgets and go 50mph slower. Ray"the Greatest Of All Time"Cote winning A heat race against the unstoppable jugernaut of nemesis; very convincingly too. one of my favorite memory's.The B-29 FIFI taking laps around the pylons. Being out in the desert with that thing flying at 100ft over my head was very cool.
