It was a pleasure to see the Bearcat on the course.

Re: Some PRS stuff...
Thanks to all, and Yes Victor, I enjoyed them too...
One different thing about this year's school was the unusual and different combinations of aircraft on the course at times. The IF1 and Biplane contingents combined their sessions (very sensible I think). Between them the two classes had a Pitts S-2, an RV-8 and a classic Swift for instructional purposes, so there were many possible combinations.
This Swift was brought up from Arkansas by long time Biplane and IF1 racer Cris Ferguson. He seemed to thoroughly enjoy the whole thing. Cris is the designer and builder of Jeff Lo's hot Biplane super racer.
The Bipe was recently purchased by veteran IF1 racer Dave Roelofs from Chris McMillan. Chris raced it several years ago, and has been gradually doing speed mods for some time. Dave also seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself -- at least he had a really big smile on his face all week.

Re: Some PRS stuff...
Cris's Swift again -- this time with McGarry in his Pitts...
I loved seeing the Swift on the course -- this shot was on Saturday, with just Cris in the airplane. He wanted to see what kind of speed he could get on the course without beating up the airplane too much. Did anybody out there in AAFO land get a time on him?

And Gary Austin about to practice passing...
So Gary -- were you faster than the RV-8? Thanks very much for the great interview, by the way -- it was really fun for us! It's really nice to work with a pilot who is articulate, knowledgable and passionate (and funny!), and who appreciates the historical context he's working in at Reno.
Believe me, the above does not apply to all pilots...

Man, I love that close up of the Swift. Thanks for posting. We need some handicap races to liven things up on Weds-Thurs.

Re: Some PRS stuff...
While I "relaxed" out on the pylons (and got sunburned for the first time in years), my Love Birgitta was as usual blasting around doing ground stuff. This shot is of Smokey Young's new ride "Sly Dog". Smokey has raced a pretty stock Cassutt a few times, but felt ready to move up to a much more serious Shoestring variant. This is potentially quite a fast airplane, and with a good motor and prop should definitely be Gold race material. Smokey is a former USAF F-111 pilot.
