    Re: Some PRS stuff...

And a couple more by Birgitta -- these of the red Cassutt that attended PRS. Neither of us met this pilot -- can anyone supply some information about this airplane or pilot? The airplane looks quite stock, but does have a thin tapered "Wilson" wing...

Neal, looks like Ray Sherwood's airplane he was selling a little while ago, and yeah it's a Wilson wing.
Don't know the new owner, yet...

That Cassutt belongs to fellow rookie, John Hall. He also owns the RV-8 that was pictured earlier in this thread and was kind enough to let IF1 use it as a training aircraft for others in the school. To get the two airplanes to PRS, John flew the RV-8 and had Gary Davis fly the Cassutt. They brought them both from San Antonio, TX, which is an amazing feat on it's own. While at PRS, John did a great job in the Cassutt and, along with me, passed his checkride and received his "racing license."

One other note, he's one heck of a nice guy. Right after I had my mayday (before we figured out it was only a smashed bug in the fuel vent and thought it was something more serious), John quickly offered to let me ride back with him in the RV-8. Pretty generous, considering he'd only recently met me at the beginning of PRS. It just shows how quickly the comeradery grows in this sport. It'll be a pleasure to have him pass me out there on the course in September.

This shot is of Smokey Young's new ride "Sly Dog". Smokey has raced a pretty stock Cassutt a few times, but felt ready to move up to a much more serious Shoestring variant. This is potentially quite a fast airplane, and with a good motor and prop should definitely be Gold race material. Smokey is a former USAF F-111 pilot.

Hey Neal, is this Bob Drew's old plane?

Paul: So this would be the ex-"Silver BB"?

Gary: Thanks for the pilot info -- The skies were sure full of racing Cassutts on long ferry flights (made up of short legs) this June.

Brad: I believe it is. If so, a long history -- started by Les Wagner for Judy before they were killed, completed up in Oregon and raced by Bob, purchased by George Budde and raced by him and by Ray Sherwood and Lynn Getchell at various times. It was hangared somewhere else on Stead during PRS so I never ran across Smokey during PRS, so I'll be interested in hearing what he thinks of her and what his plans for her are.

Looks like it takes some concentration to herd one of these things around the course...

Oh man...With all these great closeup shots, its really putting the pressure on teams and crews to get their planes looking good and keeping them clean. Not to mention the pilot will have to shave and comb his hair everyday (makeup and "do's" for the ladies).

                  Great shot Neal!
I haven't had time to really go through my PRS shots, I think I just going to dump the rest in the archive.

Neal, it's not Silver-BB, he's had this for sale for a while, not sure of the lineage.

Brad, yeah it's the (Wagner)/Friberg Special/Okie Streaker, formerly wearing a slightly more attractive (IMHO) red-white&blue paint scheme.

Gary, so you got some competition for the Iron-ass award

Another candidate for the IA Award would be Adrian, from Boundry Bay, B.C who also did not trailer down, but spent many hours in the air, and with fewer fuel stops because he has a bigger gas tank.

Had to have more than a bigger "gas" tank.

I have several times over the years heard both Cassutt and Shoestring pilots say flying their birds is "like having wings on my shoulders"...
