Dick Hunt raced the Super Pinto at the Mojave Jet Races in 1975. Unfortunately, that year they were 'handicap' races, similar to the stuff they do in England...so you really didn't get to see it go heads-up against the other planes.

Now, I'm NOT an A-10 pilot, nor that much of an expert when it comes to the performance aspects of it...but my understanding is that it is not that fast of an airplane. Designed for slow speed maneuvering, I would hazard a guess (without looking it up) that it can't be more than 450-475 mph with all that garbage (straight wing, two huge hi-bypass engines) hanging out in the breeze.

Brad, And the aerobatic act with the super pinto was really cool!

For a racer I think Reno needs to pull it's head out of it's behind, What would be cooler than a Hustler? Man if you had a Rod Lewis sized budget you could restore one of those sky hogs, take it to Oshkosh, win Grand Champion Warbird on the difficulty factor alone and then onto Reno to race with Phantoms and F-106's, ear plugs for everyone and park anything with glass six miles away!!

Anybody here remember the sheer thrill, if not ear drum shattering sound of the Thunderbirds Mike Kirby in the Phantoms? Show center to the outer limits. Man now that was a show!! Those jets had ba((s.

          Guess my age just showed.

Me too, Hoss. Watching the Blues and Birds in the Phantom was what made me want to be a pilot.

I also thought those shows were a good reason to not be a Commie scumbag!

Hmmm...I wonder if "fuel packing" would help or hinder in the turns?

The voracious appetite for fuel caused the fuel to swirl around the tank outlet (kinda like a toilet drain) and "pack" aginst the fuel tank wall. This would make the Hustler want to tuen sideways.

Put a couple of Phantoms (pre low smoke mod) out there for a few laps and the area would be IFR.

OK, then the tank is out of there, That's OK because in this fantasy we are filling the three cockpits with Lyle, Skip and Darryl. Now that's some talent

So, what.....Darryl and Lyle spend the time arguing over who is the better pilot, while Skip just takes the controls and flies?

Don't limit yourself, why not go for the ultimate (and record holder speed for jet aircraft) and restore a Blackbird to airworthy condition , win the warbird restorations, race at Reno, taking the high outside line of course . Then to pay for it's keep take it to airshows where everyone would still love to see it and operate a high speed courier service and edge of space flights for those who can't quite afford the trip on the Russian Soyuz to the International Space Station. Anyone in on the idea

Oh, Yeah, ...... I did get to see the Blues in the F11F's and the Thunderbirds in the Huns, I loved the slot planes black tail when the 'birds had the huns. The colors sitting on the ground of the AB petals and exhaust covered tail were cool.
