    Re: Planes on a Pole.

Non -Gov't owned planes. For a price could any of those WWII planes be made flyable if one could be bought? Maybe those not on poles?

      Re: Planes on a Pole.

Are there any non-Government WWII-era planes still on poles? I can't think of any apart from some Canadian Harvards (and they're probably owned by the local city)

Thats my old stomping grounds.I remember when they first brought that thing to the park. (I was 3 then.I guess all allready liked planes.) When they first brought it it still had the avionics and the canopy on it. I remeber that there was a guy in a uniform guarding the thing. I took some pics of it a while back.

Here are some others I know about:

          Tuscaloosa, Alabama
          University Mall
There is an A-7 Corsair II and UH-1 Huey out front in a memorial along with two pieces of armor.

          Abbotsford Airport
There is a CF-101 Voodoo at an entrance gate.
          Google satellite pic:

          Camp Robinson, Little Rock, Arkansas
A few aircraft on display here, namely:
          F-4C Phantom
          F-86D Sabre Dog
          F-101C Voodoo
          F-100C Super Saber
          UH-1M Huey
I have to go dig up my pictures of the place, I thought there were more aircraft there when I visited a couple years ago.

          Lastly, there is this Mustang.

It's not a real Mustang, rather a reproduction that hung in a Seattle store for many years. When the store was sold, the new owner put it in storage. It was assembled a few weeks ago for the Arlington Fly-In, the owner has it for sale. No buyers yet from what I understand.

Looks like the one. And the right park. Off by a couple miles, but Los Gatos, Campbell...kinda like Ontario, Pomona, Upland. Miss the sign or not grow up there and the dividing line is'nt obvious!

                        Re: Planes on a Pole.

Interesting. it took some searching, but I found several references to that P-51 display that say it is a life-size, fiberglass replica, not a real P-51.

Here's some info on the raising of that display:

Veterans Memorial Museum raises WWI P-51 Mustang Fighter Plane
                        10/16/2000

Branson, MO - A full-size WWII P-51 Mustang Fighter Plane was set on it's 30' high pedestal in front of the Veterans Memorial Museum in Branson, Missouri on Monday, October, 16, 2000.

The raising of the plane occurred amidst the national sorrow following the terrorist bombing of the USS Cole.

As the crowd gathered to watch many reflected on their personal experiences defending our country and on the continuing defense of freedom by our military.

Veteran Harry McBratney said, "In America our sons and daughters are called upon time after time to defend our freedoms. They have always answered that call and they continue to respond. It's a privilege to be called a Veteran of the United States of America."

Large American flags surround the museum, along with the full-size WWII P-51 Mustang Fighter Plane in front of the building, marking the location of this national tribute on West Highway 76.

Here it is on Google Earth. The plane is mis-marked as a "P-41".
