To celebrate the 2007 National Air Races, I'm posting a few glimpses the September 1967 races at Stead. In looking at these pictures for the first time in a long time, I'm struck by the fact that of the Unlimited and Transcon pilots only Bob Hoover and Darryl Greenameyer are active. For the younger folk, the races back then were only recently resurrected, but were highly competitive and covered all the major classes that we see today.

Well, things are going to happen in rapid succession now... I'm going to do a final database backup at 2:30PM CST today. After the vBulletin team gets it - the new site should be operational "with all posts" soon thereafter. Then following a series of checks, and if all goes well, I'll post a link to the new forums here soon.

Jarrod
1. Not enough room for a reasonable "chute" to stabilize the lineup before the start.
2. Eight airplanes at 350 mph+ coming into the "funnel" line abreast and trying to get sorted out before the first turn pylon. YIKES!!!
3. Proximity of the residential area to the West of Stead.
Or, forget all of the above and say, "SAFETY".
