Re: 2007 Unlimited line up ??

What's the differance if any between a Nixon race motor and Sparrow's and Rick S. and Jack hovey's?
Mostly philosophy, to tell the truth. Sparrow is very much an advocate of the Thorn Allison-rod "Mouse" Merlin, whereas Nixon and Hovey have never (as far as I know) had the desire or inclination to go that route. Ricky Shanholzer has built 2 Allison-rod Merlins (I believe it's two), both for Miss America, but his Cloud Dancer / Galloping Ghost motor from last year was not an Allison-rod motor.

Other than that, most of the pieces and parts are very similar and well known to the Merlin engine builders.

      Thanks for the info.

So maybe thats why Tiger's calling it "stock".

No, Tiger does have a bone-stock -9 ferry motor which Sparrow built up for him a few years back. My understanding is that because he didn't have a true race motor, Tiger was going to use the stock -9 to run around the pylons this year, with the hope of having another race Merlin built up for next year. But if Matt's post about Nixon building him a racing engine for this year is true, then it should be a whole different ballgame for 2007. Tiger's stock -9, while containing many of the prime pieces and parts contained in a racing Merlin, is strictly a daily driver motor.

"Yeah, I put a Merlin in her just as a daily driver. Ya know, to get me to work and back....."

"What kinda milage you git with that thing?" "Oh, about 100 gallons per hour. I might be able to get it down to 80 if I take 'er easy...."

I know what you mean, just sounds a little funny to have a Merlin as a "daily driver."
