Whats the deal on radar guns used to check a/c speeds?

?? from the flight line / pit area
?? from some of the course pylons
?? relative accuracy

Bill-
I sold police radar units, quite a few years ago, and at the time, none of them would register above 199mph.
Not much need to record speeds that high.
I would expect Radar to be useless at that distance due to the beam spread, but a Lidar might work...
There might be a purpose-built unit, but I would imagine it would be costly.
