Re: WOODIE factor over the years, taking a poll !!

All Right, I'm Jumpin in from the lurking crowd to add mine.

Any plane that put together a streak, so to this end,

    Conquest 1
    Red Baron
    Rare Bear
    Strega
    Dago (None better)

All for obvious reasons, but I think the thing that really makes the races for me is the anticipation, learning all the litle secrets as they come out, and then runnin' between pits to catch the latest.

    Unique Factor:
    Jeanie
    Tsunami
    Super Corsair
    Miss Ashley
    Critical Mass
    Peristroika

PS. How about the Gold Race in 1991 on Saturday with the Bear in front and Strega and Tsunami right on his a**! Avg. race speed 491mph!
Actually, it was a 481 and change average.

I believe the course conversion is about 2%. So, add about 10mph to that speed.

My favorite hands down is Tsunami...

No Question TSUNAMI. That aircraft was a work of art and was just realizing it's potential when the tragic accident happened. If not for that, TSUNAMI would have undoubtably been an eventual Gold champ. That Gold race of '91 was the best Gold I've ever witnessed, and I've seen quite a few, dating back to the late 60's. As far as streaks go, two planes have won 5 in a row, Greenamyer's Bearcat, and Dago Red. Darryl flew all 5, while Bruce Lockwood flew 2, and Skip flew 3 in Dago. Lyle won 4 in a row in Bear, and Tiger won 3 in a row in Strega. The Greenamyer Bearcat has a total of 6 Golds, as does Dago and Strega, but the Bear has 8 (9 if you count the "super gold" of '94). As far as competitiveness through the years on the longevity side, hands down it's the Bear. Overall, even though it hasn't won 5 in a row, Bears at the top of the list.........

Let's not forget the race of '03 with Dago and Rare Bear fighting for the Gold title and both having record breaking 500+ MPH lap speeds!!!!!

That was my 2nd time to the races, and I'll never forget it!!!

In no particular order- Tsunami (in blue & silver), RB 51, MA II, PM (love them contras), White Lightning, Dago, Stilleto, Czeck Mate, Super Corsair, just to name a few. One new favorite is Steadfast. I love the passion these guys bring.
You'll get your chance, smart guy!

Re: WOODIE factor over the years, taking a poll !!

I'll bite. In no real order, Stilletto, Galloping Ghost (in any form), Dreadnaught, Super Corsair, BMB/CM, Sept Fury (boldly going where few/no one has gone before in a Sea Fury), Rare Bear, Steadfast, Czech Mate (looks oh so cool, every year is an improvement in one way or another), Tsunami, and the Pond Racer (boldly went where none had gone before.) Others that aren't far from my top favorites, White Lightning, Big Bossman, any racing A26 Invader (thats a big chunk of metal to be muscling around the pylons) and the B17. Strega, Dago, and Voodoo are all cool as well.

Heck anything that races is cool in my book, the Wildcat and P40s rock because they come out and run from time to time. I'm all about taking old outdated technology and making it bad a$$ with new tech and ideas.
