Posts made past 02:30PM 12/30/24 won't be on the new site!

We are in the final stages of resolving the issues with the forums move to the new location. After talking with tech support, the only solution was to send him a copy of all the images. This will take time - but we know the fix SO it's only a matter of time now.

Thanks again for your patience,

    Fossett Search, additional information

To all who have sent coordinates or images, thank you. Some additional information:

The aircraft was last seen on NAS Fallon radar ~5 miles east of Hawthorne Army Depot, (38 30N, 118 30W) proceeding northbound, descending slowly (controlled) through 7000’ msl at 10:05 AM local time. This location is less than 30 miles ESE from the point of departure/arrival. Estimated time of return to the ranch was 11:00 AM. The predicted aircraft performance and climb rate must be adjusted down for the density altitude of this area in summer. Because it was a tube and fabric aircraft, it is very likely that the wreckage will look like a pile of sticks and paper. Satellite images of intact aircraft are usually in flight and not wreckage.

Steve was on a local pleasure flight and not surveying run sites for the LSR. The extreme terrain and high density altitude require turbine helicopters for close in search. Fixed wing and piston aircraft have proven to be unable to follow the terrain in the present conditions.

The majority of the search effort is concentrated in this area with Army and Air National Guard aircraft supplemented by volunteers and chartered helicopters manned by trained SAR operators and observers. The main search is being directed by National Guard SAR and C-SAR personnel with direct input from Steve’s staff pilot on his habits and intentions.

      Eric,

I know we're all distracted at this time of year but just know that the entire aviation community is praying for a good outcome!

Any news about Mr. Fossett? Haven't heard or read anything for almost 2 weeks. There must be some independent searches still carrying on.

          Still wishing for the best.

I read where they have new info & are searching again by land & air. One of the new areas is suppose to be around Death Valley? Maybe some of the Reno people have heard something.

Mondays USA stated that Air Force technicians have spotted clues to his route. They have 50 people on ATVs,horseback plus ground search & rescue into a canyon. Nothing found as of Sunday afternoon. They don't want to be more specific to avoid attracting private pilots.

The latest word as of 10/03/07 is that they have stopped the search again as the leads didn't pan out. I would assume that private searches will continue until the weather turns bad.A real mystery.

A team of 10 are going out of Bridgeport,Ca to search for Steve Fossett for a week. His wife said she had nothing to do with it & had no plans to search for him. Still a mystery. The search starts today.

Have some people from Canada and a group coming in from NY.
They have contacted local Search and Rescue for info. Based out of
Hawthorne Nv. Will be looking in the Powell Canyon area south west
of town. SSE of Hiltons ranch. Hikers and climbers. The "ONLY" way
he is going to be found.

I'll be riding mototrcycles in the White Mountains at the end of the month, so I'll keep my eyes open, too. Stranger things have happened than finding a crashed aircraft only yards from a road............

                        If he did indeed crash.

Was wrong about the Canadains. They went to Bridgeport not Hawthorne.

It will be the NY group out of Hawthorne.
