    Michelle....

I don't want to be insulting but... geez... When was the last time you spent any time with a race team?

Do you seriously think that these guys are just out there to parade?

I'm not sure whether to take you seriously, or think you're just being a troll!

    Sorry you won't be here..

Equally sorry, that it's YOUR loss!

Let's not beat this one to death folks.. I think Michelle is just "sour graping" here a bit since she probably just can't be here!

A slapdown for putting it to sour grapes Spacegurl??

Not only no but HELL no!

Sport don't need no poo pooers from god knows where who ain't even here, have not been here for a few years and are stating the end of the sport from what.. motel 6??

Just back to my hotel room because I felt guilty leaving before the Bear crew left.. Must have been nearly 11 before Dave called "beer light is on"... and the lights went out..

These guys work like slaves who's lives depend on their getting the task done, slaves who if they don't exhibit complete joy at what they are doing, they get taken out back and quickly and dispassionatly dispatched..

      Parade ey...

Think the Rare Bear crew do this to be in a parade?

Think Mike Brown's crew thrashed for MONTHS to get where they are today (wipe er' down and it's beer time) so THEY could be in a parade?

      Scuse me...

I call for the BULL S H I T flag (new one.. more on this later)

Michelle.. Please, go away, let us enjoy our sport and don't let the door hit you on your ass on the way out!

We got rid of one troublemaking FEMAMLE! Please.. don't make me get rid of another!

Guess that's the only thing that bugs me about this board. I thought the group was doing a fine job of smacking all by itself. Now you gotta bring gender into it? There aren't enough ladies at the races as it is.

        Hey it's your board.

        Space...

Personally, I have relationships with crews at all levels. I wouldn't miss it for anything. Gotta see how Merlin's Magic and the Eberhards are doing. They have no race motor and may never again unless money drops from the sky, but they'll probably run it faster than they should anyway. Win it? No. Fun to watch. Absolutely.

I've know Saghettis for along time. I don't expect Sparky to win it, but I'll cheer for them anyway.

It would be nice to see Precious Metal run hard, I don't think it's really been pushed all out since Whittington's had it. I have a great picture of Whittingon with a bandage on the end of his nose from the steam burn he got when the coolant line let go during a heat race. However, it's just awsum to see it fly. Nothing else makes that sound.

Was looking forward to the Galloping Ghost. I think that will be the plane to watch in the future. They can win it.

What can I say, I'm just a fan of all these planes. Same reason I'm going to the Gathering of Mustangs in Columbus at the end of the month. No racing, but more Mustangs than I've ever seen fly in one place. Yeah it's going to cost me, but I can't resist. I could be dead by next year.

        LIVE FOR THE MOMENT!

Hey you are making a fiscal decision. I can respect that. If it gets you an airplane, any airplane, that's great. Just don't rain on my parade.

Hope to see you "racing" soon, or were you planning to be part of an F1 parade.

Everyone goes as fast as their budget allows.

        I gotta finish packing.

            Re: RIP Pylon Bar?

This board cracks me up. I do enjoy all the pics, information, and history provided for the worlds fastest motor sport. However, the minute anybody offers a dissenting opinion they are ganged up on.

For the record, I wouldn't care if it was a parade, I would still go for the comraderie and the sights and sounds. I don't really believe it is a parade, but I can't argue with somebody who thinks that is the case.

Actually, to a degree, i guess it could be argued that it is a parade. Shall I remind you guys of the Unlimited Bronze race last year? Don't tell me that wasn't fixed... it was, all for a movie that will likely go straight to DVD.

Guys (and gals), this country was not built on complete agreement, dissent has a place.

Anyway, this is all off topic anyway... too bad about the Pylon Bar, that was an institution.

Not a flamer or a troll...

              Exactly
I've been going to the air races every year for quite some time and I wouldn't miss it if they only had hang gliders racing. I attend all kinds of motorsports and for me the thrill is how to produce 1 more mile per hour out of the racer. The air races are rarely closely contested but knowing that each crew is making another tiny modifcation to eek out more speed is all the competition I need. I just love to see them fly. So if you are not going to the races this year, I'm sure you have your reasons. If you are going to the races, relax, meet some crew members or fans, and just have fun - these races may not be around forever. See you there! Robert

                Re: RIP Pylon Bar?

I don't expect Wildfire to be competitive, I would just like to see a project long in coming on the course. I'd do the same for any "new" unlimited design.

As to the rest of the rabble, I appreciate the effort people put into every Reno. That alone doesn't make it interesting unless you are directly involved.

These days the best F1 is the lower classes when the Cassutts mix it up. I expect that's where I'll shoot for. Also, I don't have any trouble with "parades" as a participant. It takes a lot to make the show and at the end of it there is almost always a huge sense of accomplishment not to mention the friendships that are refreshed for another year.

And I'm only raining on your parade if you let me. I never said everyone else should stay home. I just said for now that's what I'm doing and said why. I also commented on a trend that has continued for a few years with the death of the pylon bar being just another sad sign that times may be changing. Maybe in a week something will happen I didn' expect and I'll regret the decision to skip this year.

Mike Brown is there to win and he will. Rare Bear is there as the first step to being back to being the plane everyone has to beat from next year on. Same for Tiger. Everyone else is there because they enjoy the experience (in unlimited, for the other classes its a little different story as there could be some interesting racing in the other classes)

I do what I can to support the sport. I sent my $50 to the Blue Thunder team, will send another $50 next month and would gladly pitch in to help any teams in my area. (and Blue Thunder isn't even my favorite Sport racer)

And what the heck was the Motel 6 comment? No idea what that even means.

Finally, to the sexist a-holes, please get out of the dark ages and get a life. Your comments have no place in these forums. :P

                  Re: RIP Pylon Bar?

                  Folks,

I'm kinda new here - and new-ish to Reno too... My first races were 2005 and I so enjoyed the experience I'm flying over from London specially for this year's event - I would have liked to have done 2006 too, but circumstances conspired against me.

I have no real idea whether 2005 was as good as, better than or worse than races of years ago. But I do know that I enjoyed 2005 and that's why I'm back this year. I hope to enjoy this year more than 2005. We all have nostalgic fondness for various events past, but things change. Lets all of us who are going to be in Reno this year enjoy the event for what it is, and not have a fight on a public forum that might influence the casual visitor (to this site AND the races) against going to the races for what may be their first time.

Now... Is the Pylon Bar open or not?

Hope to catch some of you folks next week... Have to drive over from SFO Wednesday am as I have to collect a new lens in the city Tuesday afternoon, but will then be around the event for the rest of the week. Say "hi" if you encounter an ugly Brit!

That was going to be my question, too.
Moonshiner was one of them, cool to restore it to the late sixties look. The Midget Mustang was another, I didn't ever know it's identity. The Biplane racer and glider i also remember. Anyone know where the airplanes went?

                        Re: RIP Pylon Bar?

Im not sure about the rest of the planes from the old bar, but the Amsoil special was not a flyable AC. If memmory serves, it was the test plane for the real Amsoil Special that did race. (please dont quote me on that I could be way off).

It would be nice to know were the planes are, were they are going, and when. I hope to another bar.

                        Wayne,

As far as smack downs go. You need to be smacked down for your comments. Spacegirl didnt point her finger at any one person/team.
She has an opinon and she stated it very clearly.

You on the other hand, not only pointed your finger at her but pointed the damm gun and pulled the trigger. Not only at her, but at an entire gender. I wouldnt be suprised or blame her for never comming back to the forums.

It is exactly this kind of crap that has run off more people from this forum. Do I need to name a certian well respected Moderator that just stepped down. For exactly this kind of crap. I will give you the fact it is YOUR forum, and you have a right to point fingers. But pulling the trigger was over and beyond.

I have never stepped up to the line with you on anything in the past.. But this time my friend you are dead in the wrong.

This sport needs everyone it can get to support it. Even if they are an arm chair pilot (not calling spacegirl and armchair pilot). I know you argee with that fact.

                        Just my 2 cents worth.

                        Wolfee

PS. Spacegirl, I think you are wrong in your line of thinking as well. The hard work, and passion all the teams put into the 51 weeks leading up to air race week, and then the 2 weeks they pull durring air race week proves that.

The problem with electronic communication is there is no inflection or facial queue to follow. Didn't "sound" particularly tongue in cheek to me.

You seem a bit sensitive the last month or two Wayne. Feeling OK? Perhaps I can buy you a beer later if our paths cross and chat about it. On the other hand, maybe we'd both rather be watching airplanes fly.

Gotta hit the road to Reno. Running late. A tree fell and knocked out the power at mom's house.
