I've seen a lot of of hairy landings and situations and that was absolutely one of the nicest turns on a very well thought out, tough approach. Nailed it. We we're all breathless 'till he got 'er down.

I guess JP must have been secrectly getting some Space Shuttle landing training on the side, eh? Bringing that tiny-winged bird without any power must be a real spincter-puckerer.

Exciting was watching the Bear kick ass in the final.
Hearing about the stuck throttle on the radio and watching and waiting for John Penney to land safely was not my idea of exciting.
Seeing Mr. Penney sitting on the Bear hugging his grandchildren brought tears to my eyes. I've done more crying this week than I have in the last year - good and bad.

Steve Hinton (center) tries to get through the unbelievable crowd to speak with John (took him at least 15 minutes to get to John). The Bear was not even back from Runway 34 yet.

The Bear arrives from Runway 34 and John notices the unbelievable chunk of Bondo that has blown off and severely damaged the starboard-side wing inlet. He grabs a chunk off for inspection...

Guess the Bear team has some more work cut out for them in the comming months, and another paint job.

Any word on what made the bondo fall off? Torque, wind, or other forces?
