LOL Bill... Truly, air to air shots are sooo much easier (for the most part) than ground to air! Exposure is easier, usually, the ground is your backdrop.. and the relative motion can sometimes be similar to a static shot!
Early AM, as was the case with my session, is so still, at times, in the airplane, you can really take the time to think the shot through completely... exposure, shutter speed.. chimp, try again, OK.. that's nice, let's try slower.. how's that.. OK..

I know, I piss some folks off when I say that but, if I set a camera up, put it in just about anyone's hands, sent them up, told them "shoot airplanes".. They would, likely, get better shots than what I personally get!
Now, getting that seat...
