Posts made past 02:30PM 12/30/24 won't be on the new site!

We are in the final stages of resolving the issues with the forums move to the new location. After talking with tech support, the only solution was to send him a copy of all the images. This will take time - but we know the fix SO it's only a matter of time now.

Thanks again for your patience,

No, the P.c.7 never "flew", but it did get up on the hydrofoils with a pilot named Dal Molin, there was some further testing but the Italian Gov't cancelled the project due too many other problems...this was in 1930. Bob Hirsch's book has some pictures, but I don't know how to post pictures on this thing! I'll tell you what though...It Looks like a Flying Fish with a propeller! There's probably a site on the Schneider Cup competitions that has some photos. It had a 800hp Isotta-Fraschini V-12, 2-blade metal prop, and a de-coupling, feathering hydro-propeller. Right! Mr. Marsh...musta been one helluva clutch...D.

Found lotsa pictures of it on: http://www.hydravion-modele.com OR just search for "Piaggio-Pegna P.c.7" and you'll find other stuff re it's history and other stuff...Like: W/O Tomaso Dal Molin was killed testing the push-pull S-65 (longitudinal instability) @ 350mph...D.

            O-WELL

........there goes my idea of having a permanent (give or take 50 million years into the future) Lake Tahoe as a race plane circuit.

ALL this conjecture of a 2800 or 3350 front end to a P51 gets my blood boiling...

Look what happened when the Japanese ran out of inline engines for the Ki-61 and created the Ki-100 with a radial. Accidentally made a better airplane! Always thought of a P-51 with a 4360 in front. I've got a drawing somewhere I made years ago of the concept. I'll see if I can find it to post. Great thread!

In the May '77 issue of the EAA "SPORT AVIATION" in the article about Sun 'N FUN there is a photo of Dave Garber's homebuilt push-pull Unlimited Racer, powered turbocharged Mazda Wankels @ 330hp ea Fore & Aft! Design Max speed was SUPPOSED to be 400+! It hadn't flown or taxied, but "Fish" Salmon was to be the test pilot. Does anyone know any more? Is Dave Garber related to the late Paul Garber of the NASM? It looks alot like "forbergler's" drawing...D.

                            Sport Aviation March 76.

                            Photos by??

Dave flew it, had gear problems. It never was as fast as hoped.

                            Is it for sale now?

It has been, I've seen ads for it for a while. Don't think he's sold it yet. Since it can't race at Reno due to it's weight, think the market would be fairly limited.
I've heard that it had cooling problems, as well.

                                Re: F7F Moved

Having watched it grow from a plywood mock-up to flying status, there were many obstacles to overcome. Some I feel created greater obstacles. The gear was extremely light weight and the increased weight of the aircraft made it fragile in anything but ideal conditions.

That was all back in the late 70's, I don't know what improvements/mods were made after that.
