The basic ingredients required for winning the much-coveted Unlimited Class National Championship Gold Trophy are simple:

1. A Super-Fast airplane w/gobs of 'reliable' horsepower under the hood, and squared-away supporting operating systems.

2. An well-seasoned race pilot w/a fighter jock spirit & test pilot attitude, who knows the aircraft well.

3. A veteran crew chief w/a championship-winning portfolio of engineering & leadership skills.

4. A gung-ho, versatile & tireless maintenance crew, supported by a dedicated cadre of volunteers & fans.

5. A totally-committed, & enthusiastic owner with a big heart & deep pockets, willing to finance a winning endeavour.

6. Some degree of sponsorship.

7. Last & not least - Plenty of- 'LUCK' - to prevail against overwhelming odds encountered in air racing aviation's extremes.

The 2007 RARE BEAR Air Racing Team had all those essentials AND the right amount of good fortune to endure & succeed to Win the Big One at Reno (again!). Hats-off to them all & here's a few photos to help savor their victory into the New Year ......................BuckyD

Even with spooge on it, that's still an A$$-Kickin' RACER! Hope Mr. Lewis and Mr. Cornell change their mind about the paint next year.

Great pictures! I really like the first one.In particular Steve Hinton and John Penny deep in conversation and the little man behind soaking it all in.Future Unlimited Gold pilot perhaps?
