Posts made past 02:30PM 12/30/24 won't be on the new site!

Well, things are going to happen in rapid succession now... I'm going to do a final database backup at 2:30PM CST today. After the vBulletin team gets it - the new site should be operational "with all posts" soon thereafter. Then following a series of checks, and if all goes well, I'll post a link to the new forums here soon.

    Nice pics Ryan!!

BTW- Since '97 the Alaskan Air Guard was a regular at the races with their C-130 and they usually get 1-2 laps on the clock for "kicks". Pretty awesome to see-- think F7F times 2!! Very cool--tax dollars well spent!

Super shots...and if I'm right, the High Rollers here only have 8 birds. My old wing...the 463rd TAW had 45 H models.

I met one of the "Four Horsemen" several years ago and he showed a professinally done (Air Force I think) movie about them at the local EAA chapter meeting. Really interesting. They were flying early model "Roman Nose" C-130's. Although the whole thng was (or at least started out as) a jab at the Thunderbirds, it was pretty cool.

Can't remember the year, maybe '86 or so, that the Alaska Air Guard C-130 ran around the pylons on "departure Monday". Really down in the weeds, T56's screaming, and huge smoke trail. Following year there were Alaska Air Guard C-130 Air Race Team patches (and maybe some T-shirts) around. Also, the official Air National Guard calendar featured a double page of unit patches that year, and prominent among them was the AK ANG ART patch.

Oh, for the good old days.

Yeah, I remember my first trip to Reno in 2000, the Alaskan Air Guard C-130 doing his routine and then calling for the clock. It was just awesome to see, he really cranked that big 'ol Herc around the pylons, even posted an "unofficial" 300+mph, thats right in there with Air Biscuit!!! Really cool stuff!!

I'm a little late with this, but Wednesday evening after dark a C-130 did a short field landing at Paso Robles on 1-3 and then did a 180 turn and outa here....was sitting in the recliner with the scanner watching out the living room window when they called in for a stop and go....LOL Beats what was on the TV

                    Re: OT-Nevada Air Guard

The RNZAF here in NZ have to give the C-130 one of the best display workouts anywhere, our Airforce without a strike wing, give the C-130, P3K and Boeing 757 an awesome display. The C-130 normally starts by dropping the RNZAF parachute display team, and orbiting until all are on the ground. Then a tac hot LZ approach to a max performance landing, followed by a max performance take off and a general handling display. on one pass, the Ramp is opened and the loadmasters are strapped in and waving to the crowd out the back. A couple of low runs, with gear and flaps out, before a max performance pass down the show line before a steep climb out into what could almost be called a wingover to finish the display.
The display line for example at Warbirds over Wanaka, is approximately 400ft from the crowdline, and min display height was approximately 200ft
So to see such a big airplane, thrown around like that, at such a close distance is awesome.

In the 60s we used to drop paras from flights of 80 C-130Es during training in the states
