We are in the final stages of resolving the issues with the forums move to the new location. After talking with tech support, the only solution was to send him a copy of all the images. This will take time - but we know the fix SO it's only a matter of time now.

As long as it's been stripped again, I say polished aluminum with purple highlights.
        No pixels were harmed, honest.

Excuse me Sirrr. What does that 3 blade propeller, hanging in the wall, means?. It´s only a spare prop or it will come back onto the Bear?.

            Re: Bear Be Rare

I think that when all is said and done that the prop will be back on this year. I heard that the number that the Bear produced this last year would improve dramatically with the three blade.

What don't you understand about thier use of flaperons? The mixing bellcranks are quite easy too design once you figure out the geometry.

We've been doing it for 30 years.
The biggest problem that comes to mind is that of the intersection drag at the wing root being disturbed by a moving surface so far inboard...assuming of course that the entire flap would be used. The flap as a part by itself is not much different than that of an aileron, but the action of a flap is quite different, which means starting over on all hinges and actuators. Then there is the drag from opening up those gaps between the wing and surface. All the while your dicking with a roll system that is proven. It just seems like there are better investments for that time and money (like building a big power motor). I guess it just seems like a strange way to go.

I will answer the last statement first....When you have a gizzillion dollars, a better investment is everything. R. Lewis does not care about the "investment".

The original "flap" on RB is going away and a full length flaps/flaperons being installed, at least out to the "winglets".

Not at all a very big job and with the CG/wing position changes being done will help RB attain the speeds that no one will ever be able to touch for a while.

Concerning "like building a big power motor", they will have several Big Power Motors available by Sept.

im thinking a longer aileron would cause less drag because you dont have to hang it out so far to make the airframe move! less drag in a turn = faster lap times, at least thats what im thinking

Well glad to hear that they have those kind of resources, I am looking forward to see all the changes that are being discussed, sounds like she'll be the one to beat for a while.

I listened in last year as John Penney answered a question of another race fan. He said they would need a proper test program to determine if there is a difference. Such program would depend, of course, on what the team and the owner are willing to do and pay for.

If it were purely a popular vote item, the state of Nevada may as well pass a law saying no Bearcat wearing number 77 may have more than three blades on a prop.

You have to remember that a HUGE 3 blade prop doesn't do you a whole lot of good if you cant turn the plane at speed. The flaperons might be a step toward being able to use the monster prop. There is a reason they took it off in the first place. Its good to see work has started for this year. I can't wait to see the end result. Its going to be a show down for sure. I'd like to see the Bear up and run away from the field, but I don't think its going to be quite that easy.
