Maslin's Yak is still under rebuild. Maniyak has been restored after Nesgoda crashed it in 2000. It's based in Airizona. Maybe it was a Yak 52 as there is an all red one in the Bay Area.

No, couldn't have been the '52. The planform of said aircraft looks all wrong from what I saw:

      YAK-52 three-view image:

This blueprint is the shape I saw, maybe only 1000 feet overhead. The wings of the '-11 and '-9 look similar from below, but it definitely had a short-but-wide stubby nose, so it couldn't have been a V-engine. No mistaking that BIG radial sound too, which is what drew me outside in the first place.

      Yak-11 blueprint view:

Ah well. Maybe something new will be showing up on display on the west coast this airshow season (fingers crossed).

      Thanx all.

The picture that Shawn posted looks like Eddie Andreini's Red Yak-9 out of Half Moon Bay,CA. Yes it is powered by an in-line Allison.

Most likely no paint on it.
              Cheers
