Shawn, According to the stats I've reviewed Wally did not race #106
either of these years. Now that I'm home from work I've been able look at the image with a magnifine glass, (it just makes the dots bigger), oh well. The middle racer is certainly #102. Comparing paint schemes the
lower left racer is probably #0 Spam Can, while the Sea Fury is #88. I have found no pictures of the last aircraft, but it's color is listed as blue camo which jives with the blueish hue of the fury in the photo. An interesting sidenote is that Reno doesn't list this as Heat 3C but rather Heat 7.
Looks like Baby Gorilla by Hamilton and John Marlins green w/red spinner 102 with Fred Sebby up. I crewed for Marlin that year and could not even remember what year it was. Olny that it was for sure during the last century and I had hair. Well....maybee. ss
I know for sure the pic was taken on Saturday if that helps. Are we all in agreement the the left hand mustang in Miss America?
Definitely NOT Miss A. You all are forgetting that Miss A has clipped wings. The plane in the pic does not. I think the 51 on the left is #0 "Spam Can" flown by John Maloney. The 51 in the center is #102 "Daydreamer" flown by George Roberts, and the Sea Fury is #88 "Race 88" flown by Brian Sanders. (this was the only race that Brian flew in by the way, as Dennis flew the rest). If it was "Baby Gorilla", it would look much lighter, as #16 was sea foam green, which is quite pale. Aerrace has it right, this is Heat 7 on Saturday, and the year is '84, as both "Daydreamer" and "Race 88" did NOT compete in '85.
Shawn, In a way, your pic shows that the Sea Fury in question is NOT #16 "Baby Gorilla". If you look at the pic from Flyingjibus, the white markings (numbers) on the aft fuselage are farther back towards the tail than the markings on #16 in your pic. I might be mistaken, but it sure looks that way to me........
