      Jukka,

Kool thing about all this net stuff is, if it were not for it, a ton of us, would be far poorer in all the friends we have made over the last ten years of "cyber racing" that has gone here and elsewhere!

I have to say, some of, if not my absolute BEST friends, have only become known to me due to my exposure to the world via the Internet, and this site!

Really shrinks the planet doesn't it!

I'm gonna give up for the night! I can push too many bad buttons late at night and don't even want to go down that road!

      Till tomorrow my friends!

            Re: New Mustang race motor

OK, I guess I'll buy that many readers are not currently in a part of the world where they can go see a Mustang in the flesh, so to speak. but "never"? I'm not buying 99%.

I got turned onto Mustangs because I Saw one in person when I was about 7 years old. It was sitting on the ramp at South Lake Tahoe airport. It wasn't running or flying or anything, just sitting there. I thought that was the most beautiful airplane I'd ever seen. Still do. The addiction has only gotten worse as I've seen them fly... and RACE! I've even flown in one (Merlin's Magic) this last summer. I gotta tell you, start saving. If you haven't seen one fly, come to the races. If you haven't ridden in one, you have got to do it.

I am curious, if not in person, how did all you fans become attracted to Mustangs?

Now about the 99% deal... Wayne how do you take a poll on this board?

Put me in the I've seem one column.

PS: Juke, can't you drive or take a train from where you are all the way to England in like a day? I'm pretty sure you could see one fly at Duxford.

              Re: New Mustang race motor

I can understand Juke's dilemna. In a country where a flyer is very rare it would be hard and shows within easy reach would be scarce. England would be relatively easy but I imagine relatively expensive!
I was hooked on warbirds since I was a kid because we spent many saturday's at the Air Museum at Claremont and Ontario. Divorced father trying to do something with the kids. WWof sports and photo's at the Nut Tree got me into racing, along with early Air Classics coverage.
I did'nt see my first running mustang till 1974 on a visit to Chino. "Flying Undertaker". By then I was driving and at every airport I could find!
Did'nt see my first race till 76.
If Juke ever makes it over here for Reno, we all need to get with him and give him the total immersion tour.

Well I haven't taken a poll...I say of the 5,3 mio people 53 000 has seen Mustang in flesh ...that is a one percent.

It is an amazing sight..when I saw one here and the pilot took a circle around the town here before landing at the show.

I will be in England next month ( I have booked tickets a week ago ) and at least RAF Museum in Hendon is one Museum to go.

                --------------

Wayner I went to swim in the local public swimming hall...there are 3 others in 20 kilometres radius.

There was over 1 meter of snow at the plot of one my clients in Lappland. Here in Oulu is getting warmer...maybe + 10 centigrade outdoors.

I wish peace and good solution to the near east conflict sooner the better. I hope those Irakis never went to Kuwait and stole those incubating glassboxes of the babies..that makes anyone mad....and Saddam and his sons got what they deserved, but...I am afraid this is a deeper mess than what it looked in the first place....people seem to have no concept of democracy and religious fanatics have taken over situation...common sense seems to be missing.

I wonder what really would happen if US troops just left the Irakis to do the job their way ( like Sinatra would have put it ) ?

It is obvious that revolutionary military forces would try to take foothold...but happens in all civil wars. That could be inevitable..a cruel civil war. We have really bitter memories ourselves here in Finland...reds and whites blasting each others..brother against brother.

I would certainly like to come over to Reno to see the races...but I gotta wait until the baby knows some english ! Fair enuf ?

                ...and then...

Later in Continuation war Adolf H and his regime supplied FiAF with Me 109:s and Ju 88:s and some obsolete Do-17s. None of them survived except few 109:s in a museum..last engine run was done in 1978.

An air racing event was also held with the racers..in 1949 in Utti AFB. The sole air racing event in Finland so far.

2 pics in the middle are from the engine testrun.

I also added the rarity..sole finnish "Mustang"..used in local broadcasting company for a movie..non flying wreck today.
Hey Juke, In the second shot, whats going on in the background? A speed run of some sort? The car looks interesting! On the "Mustang" shot, that can't be a real 'stang. It looks like wood! The proportions aren't quite right. The chin scoop is to big. The canopy and windscreen are all wrong, as is the main gear, gear doors, and wheels. The radiator scoop is to narrow (for stock). Also, the prop blades don't look right. It's just a movie set prop I think.............

Do you imagine what would be to see today at Reno a souped up Me-109, with all the up to date mods? Nice pics.
