The flight path for The B25 and B24 is directly over my home here in Redwood City. Yesterday evening they were followed a few minutes later by the Mustang and it just flew over again as I am writing this. We sure don't get enough Merlin Sounds around here!
Tell me about it! I have been practically in Heaven here with the sounds of big radials and roaring Merlin passing overhead every so often (ESPECIALLY the latter).
Only the 'A' model came with the Allie and it's (relatively speaking) wimpy single-stage supercharger.
It was the switch to the Merlin engine that created the 'B' and 'C' versions. Just look for the intake scoop on the nose (Allison - scoop mounted above the spinner,...Merlin, scoop mounted below.)

Don't forget the A-36 also, it's Allison powered as well!
We leave Moffett tomorrow bound for Livermore. We have been flying our butts off...especially the Mustang. The Bay area is always good to us! Stop out and say hi. We still have Livermore, Concord, Santa Rosa and Yolo to conquer. The Mustang is a riot to fly and worth every penny.

Jim Harley
Jim, do you plan on getting checked out in the Mustang?
Whew......thought I was going to be tarred and feathered for shooting film.....LOL. This Minolta 101 is the only thing I owned in high school and before marriage....it's a piece of me...been all over the world with her and she still performs...although the mirror sticks between pics....but releases when you forward the film....prime condition for being dropped a couple times at Ascot and in a creek once....Originally bought it in '68.
A little off line....is there anywhere that I could ship it to for a good cleaning and refresh????
Don't feel like you're the only one! All I shoot is film, been doing it for years. Just old skool I guess! LOL. Minolta Maxxum 5 and 7 and nothing but Fuji 800 film. Everything on my site is shot with that combo. http://www.twracefotos.com Your mentioning Ascot caught my attention! Another great West Coast track that was closed, and now the land just sits there and goes to waste If the powers that be have their way, it looks like the most beautiful track in California (and the oldest, 1937) Calistoga Speedway, might be heading in the same direction..............As far as cleaning and refreshing your camera, Gordon's Photo Service here in Reno does a real nice job, and they're reasonable.http://www.gordonsphotoservice.com Happy shooting........
awesome shots... also dont forget that the late model (ie E model) P-82's had allison's as well
Yes, but that one was never really considered a "Mustang" in the true sense.
"Although based on the P-51H Mustang, it was actually an entirely new design of Edgar Schmued incorporating two lengthened P-51H Mustang fuselages mounted to a newly-designed center wing, tail and propellers, as well as having a unique four wheel landing gear." - Wikipedia
To clarify that quote, the fuselages were not actually P-51H models that were lengthened, but were simply based on the "H" design. The fuselages for the P-82s were built specifically for the aircraft, not modded from existing "H" 'Stangs.
