We are in the final stages of resolving the issues with the forums move to the new location. After talking with tech support, the only solution was to send him a copy of all the images. This will take time - but we know the fix SO it's only a matter of time now.

    100% accurate.

They wanted a 500mph lap. They explained the heck out of it at the race that year. No one seems to remember that, but the way Dago was runnin that year im not suprised.

      Did Dago win that year?

A few years back RARA "optimized" the the way the course was timed. Instead of the typical pylon to pylon shortest distance method being used, a line was projected that represented the actual flight path and the new timing represents this. This artificially increased the averages somewhat.

So...there is no direct correlation between the old and new times. There is an accepted "fudge factor" one can use to compare the two, but I don't know what that is.

Actually, I think there is a conversion, simply because when they made the change, it was a distance correction. D=RT. The conversion is around 2% for the change that was made in 2003.

I posted this earlier this year.

          Re: 2008 predictions

Makes me wonder how the fudge factor will be compiled this year, since the 'actual' course has been shortened again. How will we compare?

They should never have changed their straight pylon-to-pylon distance measurement, since 'records' are involved. Everyone knew 'actual' true air-speeds on the course were faster than what timed results said... and probably still are.

Uhh, he finished a few laps before it blew up. They timed him. He was (IIRC) ~10mph faster just from the prop. What am I missing?

Yes, Dan was unofficially timed at ~ 470 MPH for his best lap speed, but I doubt the Strega prop had much to do with that. I believe it had much more to do with the power settings Dan used, a beast of a Sparrow Merlin, a considerably cleaned-up airframe, perfect weather conditions, and of course, the stick actuator himself.

The Ham Std cuffed prop (11' diameter) seems to be the best performer for a racing Mustang, and I'm sure Tiger would not have modified his were it not for the runway mishap in '97.

If a merlin holds together, it is tough for those chuggers to keep up (IMO)
I'll go for a red mustang..
