Regarding your specific Unlimited 'dream race' combo of these two Super Stangs (arguably the World's two fastest P-51Ds ever) versus Rare Bear (Officially- 'World's Fastest' piston/prop aircraft)- here's some thumbnail statistics summarizing their previous engagements together, racing with each other in closed course racing competition:
#4 Dago Red, #7 Strega & #77 Rare Bear have logged a total of 16 race encounters together to date during their existence, with all three racers finishing during 8 of them. That's culled from seven annual Reno events, plus Phoenix '94. #77 was top Unlimited qualifier for 5 race event venues (4-Renos & PHX '94), & #7 was top qualifier for 3 of them.
Strega won 10 of these races (including 3 of #7's Reno Gold wins: '87, '95 & '96). Rare Bear won 3 of these combo contests (including 2 of her Gold wins: Reno '89 & PHX '94). Dago Red won 2 of them (actually 'almost' had herself a Gold for a 3rd at Reno '95 but cut a pylon).
Individually, each of these three respective Unlimited Class Champion race aircraft's accomplishment lists are much more impressive, of course.
So what do these statistics mean overall? Just that these titans have a good history of dogfighting with each other out on the racecourse, and it's worth being optomistic about their return to do it again someday in the future, to grant your wish! There's plenty of other fans who'd also really enjoy this encore engagement
