  • Steadfast New Colors A2A

I had the opportuntiy to accomplish a photoshoot with Will and his newly painted "Steadfast". The warbird/racer looks great and Will has really accomplished alot with this aircraft given his very limited budget. Mike Haiston provided the T-6 photoship and now you get the benefit of their generosity to spend a Sunday afternoon playing photo tag.

Drum role pleeeeeeeeeeeease..................... And now Will and the Steadfast team present, the newly painted "STEADFAST"!!!!!

    Enjoy the photos.

Wow. Steadfast really does look good. One question though, don't all the stars under the cockpit imply Will's been shooting down his own side?

    Great photos. Thanks.
    No pixels were harmed, honest.

I am trying to talk Will into putting mini Tigercat silhouettes with a red slash through it. LOL.

Nope. The way I always understood it is that the Russians despised the Germans so much that they wouldn't even put their swastika or cross on their airplanes when one was shot down. So each star was actually a German victory.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here.

Actually it meant ANY Enemy (Romanian,Hungarian, Finn, etc.), and it was a outlined star representing a Shared Victory...D

Also a finnish interwar era passenger airliner "KALEVA" kill was an enemy ?

This may be little off topic, but loosely connects to the matter at hand.

Swastika symbol is really a loaded issue.

It is ancient sign from far east and later used in masonistic symbolism as well as in heraldism.

It was a imported symbol in Finland and painted in the first FAF plane Thulin Monoplane ( Bleriot copy ) from the Count Rosen of Sweden well before the Nazis started to use it. Finnish Air Force swastika was blue on white ( like the colors in cross in the national flag ). Also nazi swastika was tilted 45 degrees unlike FAF swastika.

At any rate the connection between reichmarschal Göring ( early member in the naziparty ) and the very same family of Rosen slightly bugs me...did WW I ace Hermann Goering bring the swastika into nazi symbolism or was it just a pure coincident ? Does anyone know for sure ?

The whole symbol is forbidden in Germany...also finnish swastika symbol cannot appear even in the plastic model box covers there.

Allied supervision also prohibited the use of FAF swastika on air force planes in Finland after peace negotiations in 1944.

The only ( possibly some other civilian planes too ) FAF plane used during WW II that did not bear swastika symbol was DH 89 Dragon Rapide...I think I am going to model that next..there is no unwanted negative load in that AC..and it looks cool.

AERO also had a DH 86 named SILVER STAR ( yes in english ) it was written off when a FAF Brewster Buffalo collided with the four engined passenger plane at Malmi airport. The two AERO owned DH 89s were LAPPI and SALAMA ( Lapland and Lightning ). Those were used by the army for ambulance flights accasionally.

FAF planes did not have stars drawn into planes either as symbol of a kill. Some had beer bottle ( brand Karjala / Carelia ) etiquets glued in the rudder.
