Two main things to look at are the wrinkles in the skin, between the wing and tail , and the paint lines not exactly matching up on the cowling, due to the torque.

I agree. Awsome Machine!
What's with the augmenter(?) beneath the cowl?

From the post "#42 Relentless, returns to the sky" 4-18-2007:
Could you tell us a little about the cooling air cowl outlet duct?
This was designed by Paul Lipps to replace stock exhaust Augmentor. So far is seems to be working perfectly! We need more testing but so far temps are low and the exhaust heat is deluted to the point it does not seem to hurt the gear doors like the old exhaust used to. I am sure the drag is less than two round tubes sticking out but we may play with some cowling changes in the future.
I love your photos Neal... "Madness" has been one of my favorite IF1's since it first showed. Looking at this photo though, I can see three places at a glance that are begging for aero cleanup... It's easy to suggest "fixes" when I'm not he one committing the hours of composite work to do it though. I'm just glad the aircraft is still racing!
Several years back, I was told by someone who claimed to be "in the know" that this airframe was a bit marginal in roll authority when on the course. Can anyone comment on this?
Thanks again for everyone who's positng photos from PRS!

The IF1 Gold should be quite interesting this year. I expect Steve Temple, for one, to be pushing a bit harder as he dials in some "Madness"...
That is a great picture and is kind of like what I was describing before it is the shadows that seem to show up in Neal\'s pictures like this one that show the deformation I was describing elsewhere in the Bakersfield pictures. there are a couple of points to be made about the Rare Bear in this shot, but I\'d like to not hi-jack the thread.
There is a photo in one of the Reed Kinnert books that shows the cowling of #77 offset by several inches. It was the year that they had the downdraft scoop on top of the cowl, and with as much \'twist\' as there is, its amazing that one, they got any \'smooth\' air into the engine, and two, that the scoop didn\'t blow off because of the offset.
