"Cottonmouth" will be returning to Reno this year as "King Fury."

It was last at Reno as "Conch Fury" in 2005 raced by Fred Cabanas for the "Conch Republic Air Force."

Just to add to that it is now owned by the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison TX.

Not 1988, but another shot of one of my all time favourite Sea Furies...

That was not Micky Rupps Mustang it was David Price...............
After a mayday landing hot and long. Hoover told him he was just about out of runway and to groundloop it.

Did the ground loop damage the prop? Was that Mustang the first to use that style wingtips?

I think y'all are talking about two different airplanes.

They flew it in to PRS and parked it in the big hanger at the east end of the ramp. Looked like they were just tinkering around with the motor.

                          They are.
Rupps had the squared off tips and pointed spinner that you see in the first set of photo's. If this plane was later "Samurai", does anyone know if it was still in this configuration when it crashed?
Nice shot Neil. You make the polished metal glow. My memories of the plane were mostly that it dazzled out every shot I took with the sun coming off of it...

My first Reno Air Races. In lawn chairs on the ramp, but Saturday only.

Groundloop mayday landing, and tons of maydays in the Gold race.

                            A pretty exciting initiation.

If I remember right they ran out of runways. LARS went into the dirt right in front of the crowd and only one or two landed without maydays. I've got video of the LARS incident and Price as he comes to a stop. Quite a day!

                                Here's Rupp's a few years later!

Speaking of Rupp, does anyone have a picture of his Mustang that was painted to match his Invader?

Both he and Levit's just knew how to paint a racing/civi scheme
