    Re: '08 Reno Daily Lineup.

I go for Air Racing, I have seen enough loops and rolls. RB-57 was over southern Nevada "area" last week. Thanks, KC

I saw enough loops and rolls on my first solo. Not on purpose tho...
I like it all but I agree, I go to see racing.

Also kind of odd...No thunderbirds on the schedule for sunday?? I know they have done this in the past but it still doesnt make sense.

Not that I don't like the newer group out there, they are awesome, but there is a big difference between the super acros violent moves and the slower grace of a Hoover, Lefty, Scholl or the Red Knight. And my personal favorite 9other than Lefty) was always the inverted spin that Jimmy Franklin did in the Waco. All smoke and noise and seemingly too low.
OK, I'm getting nostalgic and way off topic!

That must be one smart kid! Great idea! Maybe tie it in with the wall of fire thing they did a couple years back.

                  Re: '08 Reno Daily Lineup.

My first year was 1984. I remember seeing Mr. Hoover coming in from the east on final in Old Yeller. Just off the end of the runway, gear down and everything, he pulls the nose up and does an aileron roll then gently sets it down on the runway. I'm pretty sure i will never see that again. Wow, 24 yrs gone by. What happened to the time.

Speaking of nostalgia. Was it Art Scholl that played the character, Crashburn T Throttlebottom? That was a fun performance.

The one time I saw Art do the farmer (in 85 so probably his last time. The first I had seen it so it's all on tape), he played Clem, a "local" who was upset with all the hubbub but would shut up for a free ride. They rolled out the Supr Cub. When the pilot got out to check a stuck tailwheel, off went Clem. I like Kent's act now but Arts was pure, well, art!
Anyone else remember the year that Hoover took off, did his roll on takeoff, then quickly made a deadstick landing? There were rumors of sabotage and such. I have a slide taken of the takeoff where he is upside down and COVERED in oil. Hoover was like Lefty. The announcer would have moved on to the next event and off in the distance they would be approaching to land rolling and playing even tho few were probably still watching.

                      Re: '08 Reno Daily Lineup.

I agree with you guys. Ole Raybob as we call him was probably one of the best sticks in the world. He has flown everything and he was so smooth. His routine got a little old after so many years but he was amazing pilot. We have been going since 1984 also(plus the kids, siblings, in-laws,etc.). But we come to see the races not the flippy-flops as Mr. Pardue calls them. We do miss Lefty, Jim Franklin and Elliot Cross, Art Scholl, and Wayne Handley. Don' get me wrong the new guys are good but not quite the same. Jim Franklin's Waco with the jet engine was awesome! Getting off the subject, but had to reminisce(?), sorry spelling was not my best subject. I say add a few more Unlimited races but probably won't happen. Sure it will be good anyway, can't wait.
