    Re: QUAL UPDATE!!!!

The Bear will qualify on time (my prediction) at around fourth. They will find themselves starting second on Sunday for the greatest four place gold gunfight ever seen, and win. This is my belief and will be so until told otherwise.
Would have liked to see her race in primer.

Saw that Sparky's qual. is listed as alternate pilot. You think Steven Hinton is responsible for posted time?

Steadfast is also listed as alternate pilot-who could that be?

      Re: QUAL UPDATE!!!!

Steven did the second qualifying run in Lady Jo with the same qual speed as Robbie posted (according to the RARA site). Doesn't look like he's done the alternate qualification run in Sparky or Air Biscuit. The alternate for Steadfast is listed as Dave Morss.

Being a V-12 guy at heart I'm not the Bear's biggest fan but I still want them very much in the fight. I'd love to see #77 qualify right in the middle of that amazing (first time?) 1.351 mph gaggle that the top three are already at, and for the four of them to kind of stay that tight with each other all weekend with no breakage.

I agree with you Lowell. Anyone wishing any of these planes to stay on the ground does not know anything about the pilots and crews that race these wonderful machines and the hard work and effort that is put into getting one in the dance. It's been said many a time, when any of these Monday morning quarterbacks have the cash to buy and enter a bird, then they can make these decisions. Until then, keep the negative commentary to yourself.

          Just my $.02

            Re: QUAL UPDATE!!!!

Have to agree with Lowell and BJH. I get frustrated at these guys that want to manage a multi-million dollar race team from their computers. I'm greatful to be able to watch the only Unlimited racing in the world and the hard work put into the aircraft by guys like Rod Lewis and Mike Brown and their crews that work tirelessly. I'm sure they would like to be resting right now but hey, that's RACING!

My ideal Gold race on Sunday is to see the big four duking it out. I love the round motors but want to see Rare Bear, September Fury, Dago, and Strega pushing hard.

Who is wishing... I sure as hell am not the Bear is my fav plane of all time. Which makes me mad why her team hasn't statistically been more prepared.

                Re: QUAL UPDATE!!!!

I don't think anybody is wishing for bad fortune on any of the teams. And yes, unless you own the team you have no rights to manage the team through a message board. However, as a fan of air racing that wants to see a brawl in the air on Sunday afternoon I can't help but shake my head in disbelief that last years champion has not yet made it off the ground. I think there are quite a few of us 'fans' that are wondering why they chose to paint before flight testing and why they chose to install an untested ignition system at the last hour. I certainly don't want The Bear to be a static display on Sunday. Unless it is the ultimate sandbagging ploy I have to wonder what's going on.

Most of Bears crew is located in Reno/Northern Californica

Texas really only provides the $$$ to Bear.

                    Re: QUAL UPDATE!!!!

That thought had crossed my mind.... Another thought was to simply create more drama and excitement to the race weekend. Which it is doing. Everyone is nothing but questions, when will Bear fly, will Bear fly, whats Bear doing, have they engine tested Bear? Once it actually gets off the ground a whole slew of questions is created. How fast, how reliable, etc etc etc.

Like I said in another post I am not pretending to know what it takes to manage and run a race team. I am just a fellow Aviator, and a huge Bear fan that doesnt understand the decisions made.

My understanding is that the Bear is hangared at K4SD. That's basically year round access WX permitting to test and run the aircraft. That's not to say the team has the time nor resources to work on her all year. Every one of them have career's.

With the Bear or without the Bear it does not matter to me, as long as The "Ole Tige'" is out front with a sly grin on Sunday afternoon at the last pylon, on the last lap. So all I have to say is Strega! 2008 is the year of the Witch!

It's gonna be a red plane fight for the front. As much as everyone wants the Bear to fly, I would, as the pilot is, err on the side of safety. Gremlins do not a winner make.

Dago is the sentimental favorite in this camp, but the world class crew of another will be the deciding factor. Can they, will they. . . . .

Couldn't have said it better myself John. Been waiting a while (since my first Reno in '97) to see Tiger holding the winner's trophy again.
Here's hoping the Witch shows her tail to all on Sunday afternoon.

                                Go Strega!!!
