Re: Steven Hinton to Race "Sparky"

Stevo went up to Tiger ranch and flew Strega.

Is there a chance he will race that plane sometime in the future?

Re: Steven Hinton to Race "Sparky"

In 1941, at age 21, he probably would have been nicknamed "Pappy". My uncle was younger than that when he was flying B-25's out of Italy! It's amazing when you think about all the young men that went to war, the incredible responsibility of those airmen.
I heard Tiger say at the end of it all that he was "proud to hand the reigns over to this young man" (paraphrasing here). I assume he meant Hinton? Next year? I know he flew a nice line in Sparky, and in Strega at PRS.

        Simple...because he can...D.

Re: Steven Hinton to Race "Sparky"

On the ramp Sunday during Strega's victory celebration I watched someone tell Stevo "go stand over there with your pilot" while Tiger was standing with the Trophy. He looked over and said "Naw, let him do his thing"

Good to see that this whole thing isn't making him anymore cocky than it should.

Seems like a good guy, despite him making me feel old and jealous!

His co-pilot on the tow vehicle was real purty too.

During the awards banquet Tiger said something along the lines of... "This year was my last year flying Strega during the air races. The new pilot will be... well, I think you can guess who the new pilot will be."

I heard the phrase I was referring to as part of his speach after getting out of Strega. Sounds like he definately has it all planned.

That's actually pretty fast for a Wildcat. I don't how true it is, but I've heard the Wildcat will only do 390 MPH straight down at wide open throttle.

He's a natural and will do well for many years to come. I had a chance to meet him at Chino and he is very down to earth.....

Actually we only run enough power to qualify. This meets our race strategy of finishing last. We've been great at finishing last except for a couple of years ago when Odeguard blew his 4360 in the Super Corsair so he could be last. I thought that didn't show good sportmanship on his part.
