Posts made past 02:30PM 12/30/24 won't be on the new site!

We are in the final stages of resolving the issues with the forums move to the new location. After talking with tech support, the only solution was to send him a copy of all the images. This will take time - but we know the fix SO it's only a matter of time now.

Thanks again for your patience,

Bob Hannah lost an elevator trim tab in Voodoo a few years back and it could have turned out not so good. But everything worked out. Scary situation. Sorry I missed Wayne's post about Buckwheat's adventure!

Just curious, why did Bob Hannah give up air racing? It seems like since he "retired" from the sport that he more or less just dropped off the face of the earth. Have you ever seen him at Reno as a spectator since then? Does he still fly warbirds in any capacity?
This article talks about why... http://aafo.com/racing/people/hannah_2.htm

        the audio file http://www.aafo.com/vid/98/reno98vd.htm

http://hannahracingproducts.com & http://bobhannah.com are what Bob is up to these days..

OK... returning this thread back on topic...

PS.. you can usually find Bob and his lovely lady Terri in the Voodoo pit during race weekend...

Somwhere I still have video of Hannah's vertical adventure and the aftermath. 1998. That's when Voodoo was raced in primer. Never forget the sign on the plane after that - "Family Sacrifice Ends! For Sale or Trade!" Glad he made it back from that...could have gone either way.

Also have Sherm's smoking dive for the runway, but lost him behind the hill before the ground loop! Crazy days....

This year, Mustang owner Ted Contri was generous enough to loan a rudder to Dago Red after the mishap, the only real decision was.....which one of his two Mustangs to borrow the rudder from??? It was Rosalie, the blue and silver Nevada Guard Mustang........that is the fastest speed that rudder will ever see!!!!!
His other Mustang is Sizzlin' Liz, a red and silver Nevada Guard veteran.
            Thanks Ted!!

I would like to thank the person,or persons who picked up the tab and handed it to me after the race{complete with an F22 Raptor sticker on it!} It's always nice to get your missing parts back! The airplane shook so bad it poped some of the filler on left side. We didn't want to feed the kitty or any other animals out there so we fixed it and touched it up with some rattle can grey. Thanks to Ted C. as well for the loan of Sizzlin Liz's rudder, which is down for an engine change. Mike Meek

                Re: Dago Tail

Great interview with Bob Hannah. Thanks for sharing Wayne. I met Bob last year at the White Bothers World Vet Championships at Glen Helen in San Bernardino. That would be a motocross race! Bob was inducted into their hall of fame. He is a character! That comment about seeing Hawk **** on the pylon is totally Bob! I know more about his motocross exploits than his airplane racing. His nickname was Hurricane Bob Hannah. When I first learned he flew Voodoo I thought what. thats freaking nuts! I even mentioned something to that affect when talking to Button last year. The Hurricane is the first to admit his riding style was not picture perfect..he basically had great hanging on skills cause his feet were hardly on the pegs but one thing is for sure, he knew how to twist the throttle and stay up right! He's not a big husky guy either so I don't know how he was able to do what he did. There is a DVD called Legacy of Motocross with a great interview with Bob. He's sitting in front of a swamp in Idaho talking about the good old days. A fearsome competitor and a great story teller!!

Here are some shots showing how unhappy it was on departing the rudder.
