    No pics...

My father flew the Navy variant of the B-25 (it was called the Privateer)during his second Pacific tour, during WWII. It was a PBY5-something. it was a land based four engine bomber. Basically it was a single tail variant of the B-25, built for the US NAVY. it shared a lot of the B-25 hardware, yet had different wings, slightly different engines, electric gun mounts instead of the B-25's manned turrets. Seems like there were a few more differences I can no longer recall...

And No, I did not see one at RENO...ever!

It is quite possible that there may be some other land based bomber that share a "PBY" designation...

And there were no four engine anphibeans at RENO this year, that I saw, at least.

Yep, I have them down as -6's. I know one crashed at an airshow, the other hit the water during a simulated water landing.
Bud, You must be talking about the PB4Y. Based on the B-24, single tail patrol bomber. The Navy did fly B-25's (PBJ's?) but they were basically the same configuration as every other B-25, twin tails and engines.

Leo. Yeah that sounds right.... must be that memory slipping again...

It confusing to me that there were several "PBY" designations for multiple A/C. like they have different numbers for the flying boats, amphibious version, and the version my Dad flew, a non-amphibious version. I guess the early PBY's were not amphibious and after you landed on water, you could float the plane onto a pair of utility dollies and rolled the thing up the shoreline ramp.... Ahyhh, those navy guys....And then the PBY4 and PBJ versions.....

Back in the mid to late 90's during an inspection , corrosion was found on the main spar and the aircraft grounded. The hull is in storage in Texas, somewhere.

The hull is parked at Gary Austin's Haircare and Tire Center in Midland, Texas....
