Is Furias going to keep her newly installed second seat, or is it going to come out?

Just curious.

Like Wayne said it’ll probably come out. September Fury had a jump seat before her modifications were done, so she has a nice open area behind the seat for telemetry and video gear.

P.S. Congrats Matt on the awesome ride for next year.
Oh, and thanks for flying such a nice and tight formation on the way back to Ione after the races, it made for some cool shots.

Not normally, it has to be retracted by hand, it has hardly any affect on handling. Just looks funny because somebody forgot!

Yes, the dreaded step out syndrome. Id like to say it fell out, but there is a big spring that pulls it up and locks. I was first guy into plane. So I am going to blame Mark Watt for not closing when he entered.

Don't feel bad Matt.. I worked for a T-33 guy once at an airshow and my main job was to check that the step was folded before he taxied...

Any reno pilots need somebody to make sure that step is up next year all I ask is for a ride, and a bit of stick time heheh.

Yes the step is usually popped back up once everyone is strapped in as Matt said above, but on that day it was pretty hectic getting the three planes launched with minimal crew left on the ramp. The four of us in Pops and Bossman were waiting for Fury to get started but she was being a pain and didn’t want to start so that got everyone’s attention. Once Fury started it was a mad dash to get the other two fired up and taxing when Mike was ready to roll.
The flight in Bossman was well….. how can I say this…….. AWESOME.
When you get strapped in all you see is this massive wing out both sides. The wing is set high on the fuselage so you can actually put your arms out and rest them on the wing. The seat is not the most comfortable if you’re tall (I didn’t have to worry about that) but it’s a full seat with harness with oxygen hookups in the back as well. The funny thing was when I was getting suited up Al said they didn’t have a chute for me (I wasn’t caring at that point). While getting strapped in we told Brian that I had no chute and he replied that he couldn’t get into Mike’s for some reason and said we’ll just have to ride this out together if anything happens.
For the size of the plane it takes very little time to get off the ground, you definitely get shoved back into the seat when the power is applied. It took no time at all getting to altitude and in formation. I’m not sure of our final altitude or speed but the flight seemed to go by WAY too fast. Brian did a couple of rolls while descending into Ione which was pretty cool, then the overhead break for landing behind Fury and Pops.

Hey thanks for the narrative Jason Are there any instruments in the back, I assume not since you didn't know your speed or altitude. We don't get to many F7F's around here, in fact the last time one came through was Mikes when he bought it from Lonestar it popped in and spent the night.

No there aren’t any instruments back there only the oxygen selector box down by the left knee. Here is a shot down the tunnel where the full radar operator’s panel used to be.

And if you go to the “F7F-3N (Radio Operator)” on this page http://uscockpits.com/F-L.html you’ll see what it would’ve looked like back in the day.
