But being a bit more direct, the main purpose of being out there is to get great shots to share. Some of those shots are, if you're lucky, marketable to various publications from across the country and around the world. I've managed to turn a buck or two by this process and have some nice keepsakes, the publications with my photos in them. Fair to note here, the fee most publications pay for included photos is very small.. included meaning, you are not the author of the story, or the story is very short... as in the news sections of magazines..

I'm not exactly sure about the "rules" regarding photo sales to teams.. Personally, due to the expense of what they do and where I'd be without them doing what they do, I've always "given" in the case of digital use, and either given or only charged for print and shipping costs for prints.

I've also donated many hours to different race teams to help them in one way or the other with their online presence.

I think a quick and dirty answer to your questions.. nobody holding a camera at the races is doing it thinking it's a good way to make money...

Probably similar to the guys holding the wrenches and sticks in their hands...

Just my opinion, but probably fairly accurate..

Great reply, thank you for the insight! Hopefully, someday, you can get a shot of me around a pylon! Thank you again for the insight!

      Really accurate.
In fact we spend a few thousand dollars per year to come the long way from Germany (airline, hotel, rental car, equipment...) and many many many many hours (weeks) in front of our PC to be able to be there. I allow myself to have at least some fun while proving that I´m crazy.
