This is OT, but would have never got airborne without the birds.

I once had a swallow whose wing was broken in my quarters, but she was eaten alive by neighbors boxer dog while she ( Maximilian the I ) escaped from the box I made for her...from the balcony. Her wingspan was 37 cm.

The Peregrine Falcon is like the unlimiteds or sport class in at Reno. The fastest thing around.

Here is a video of it in flight. It sweeps it's wings like an F14 or F111 when it needs speed.

I wonder if it's possible to put a mini camera on it and then have it race with other birds around a track. Something you do with the family on an afternoon with some beer, pizza and a rock and roll band???

Or maybe you fly them up to 10 or 20,000 feet as a group, throw them out the door, and the first one to land is the winner. Sort of like speed skydiving, since they are speed birds.

Speaking of speed, how about speed skydiving, where they get speeds of 300 mph.

There was a document of Mary of Exeter on TV here.

It seems that several of those doves learned to evade the attack. It was a nanosecond before the falcon grabs the bird when the dove made a move where it dropped like a stone and before the falcon was able to regroup it was gone ( Mary of Exeter ). I think it was distinct sound when the falcon brakes before the impact that triggered the evasive maneuver by the dove.
