If you had the radio on the past couple weeks here in So Cal you would hear the NHRA boast that they are the "fastest sport". Im a huge NHRA fan- but know this is total BS. They should get a cease and desist letter from RARA...
Re: NHRA: "We're the World's Fastest Sport"
Well, if one considers the Red Bull series "racing" then the World's Fastest Sport would be the time trials for land speed records at places like Bonneville and Black Rock.
Red Bull is really Aerobatic time trials, yes/no? The same as with Land Speed record attempts, they are time trials, yes/no? So, racing against the clock in a racing car/plane is not racing?
Now, the fastest "side-by-side" or "heads-up" Motor Sport would be the National Championship Air Races at Reno, and the Quickest would be NHRA Drag Racing.
"Sport" is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
That, I think leaves Land Speed Record Time Trials as the Fastest overall sport?
Re: NHRA: "We're the World's Fastest Sport"
The thing about a statement like "fastest" is there can be several different meanings. NHRA can easily boast they are the fastest from 0-300 mph, thus making it an accurate statement.
In advertising you always want to be number one. Just pick a defensible statistic (no matter how obscure) and you're golden.
Re: NHRA: "We're the World's Fastest Sport"
The thing that is annoying is that they didn't say motorsport- they just said sport. I may sit down and send them a polite email and CC RARA (although a letter on paper would be better).

Red bull is a race against the clock and each other, just not at the same time.

Actually speaking in racing terms, that would make it the "quickest" sport. Fast is the speed you go quickness is how fast you get there.

[QUOTE=AKA HITMAN;68444]Fastest in the 1/4 mile that is...QUOTE]
Even that's not true anymore. Only the Pro Stockers and Sportsman still travel the full 1/4 mile. NHRA has wussed out and has been running to 1000 feet since Scott Kalitta's accident last year. IHRA still runs the "historic" 1/4 mile.
