We are in the final stages of resolving the issues with the forums move to the new location. After talking with tech support, the only solution was to send him a copy of all the images. This will take time - but we know the fix SO it's only a matter of time now.

Bravo! What an awesome aircraft. Early seventies? This plane was revolutionary in the sport aircraft industry. I'd love to see it at Reno.........

Yeah, but when people paint them white spectators think they are plastic! Paint 'em red.

There is also a fixed gear model that has had sucess at Reno racing against retractable gear Glasairs and SX 300.
The early fuel system was designed to meet a proposed FAA design criteria, which required flapper valves and a small reservoir. Fuel starvation could result if a number of components did not work optimally together. This system has been all but abandoned, with a simpler, reliable system recommended.
An active owners and builders group offer constant info and advice on the aircraft, recommendations that are valuable for building and maintaining this speedster.
Please note that this aircraft is a 20 year old design, specific to carry 2 people cross country efficiently and effectively while offering a stable IFR platform in flight, and yet it is still reasonably competitive at Reno when in the mix with the new crop of purpose built racers.
This is all very good to hear. I wonder what the kit costs today... or is it like White Lightning..molds have been long destroyed ?

Danny Mortesen raced a modified one in the biplane class. Got into some wake around the scatter pylon at the start one year and slammed into the desert. He walked away with only a small scratch on his thumb. One of the most scary and spectacular things I've ever witnessed.

I think Mortensen was the pilot on Amsoil Racer.

I checked that White Lightning had 47 MPG and regular Piper Arrow with same IO-360 has 26 MPG. Difference is 45% when the "pedal is at the metal".

White Lightning has gotta be the most economical four seater ever built ?

alot of people overlook the bd-4 ,I think cause it not so pretty. But it is a four seat 200 mph airplane on an o-360, thats hard to find, and u can pick one up for 20-30,000$, thats good considering we just payed 550,000 for a new cirrus.

                            Correct 192 mph and IO-360 engine ( 200 hp ) for BD-4.

They give only 20 mpg...possibly my estimate above is overrated a bit ( cause the speeds are possibly flown with just one person and cruise speed is thus much lower or consumption at top speed higher ).
